The Chicago Bears signed TE Martellus Bennett (Giants) Tuesday, Mar. 12. Bennett received a 4-year deal but the financial terms were not disclosed.

Huddle Up: QB Jay Cutler will now have a TE added to his arsenal after the Bears struggled with the likes of Kellen Davis and Matt Spaeth at the position last year. Bennett enjoyed a breakout season (66-526-5) in his lone campaign with the Giants, and has the potential to produce even bigger numbers in Chicago, where the passing game was strictly a one-man show with WR Brandon Marshall a season ago.

The New York Giants appear to be making a late push to re-sign impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett before the market is set to open Tuesday, March 12. The two sides have talked in the past few days, and according to a source, plan to talk more before the deadline. However, there is no indication that an agreement is close.

Huddle Up: Bennett had a solid season for the Giants in 2012, and the smart move would be to lock him up before he hits free agency as there are several teams--the Bucs and Bears among them--looking for tight end help.

While the New York Giants want impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett back, they will not get into a bidding war with another suitor. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly hot on Bennett's trail if he hits the open market.

Huddle Up: The Bucs' interest makes sense, as their OC is former Giants' quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan. If the Giants don't retain Bennett, they could be a first-round suitor for Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert.

New York Giants impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett, impending free-agent OT William Beatty and impending free-agent SS Kenny Phillips could be options to receive the franchise tag this offseason.

Huddle Up: Bennett had a breakout first season with the G Men, hauling in 55 passes for 626 yards and 5 TDs, but was that impressive enough to earn a tag? It's only one of the many pressing free-agency questions the Giants will be juggling this offseason.

Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner both believe a big, athletic tight end can be very productive in the offense. The team is looking for depth at the position, with only TE Jordan Cameron under contract in 2013. The top free-agent on the market is expected to be TE Martellus Bennett (Giants), unless he is retained by the team before free agency opens March 12.

Huddle Up: The Browns do need a TE but likely will have to look elsewhere than Bennett, who had a breakout debut (55-626-5) with the Giants in 2012.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to show interest in New York Giants impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett if he becomes available this offseason.

Huddle Up: The Bucs made due with Dallas Clark at tight end last season, but Bennett would give them a more complete player at the position.

New York Giants TE Martellus Bennett (undisclosed) said he suffered an injury in the team's Week 9 game, saying he hurt his "whatever." Bennett did not seem to think the issue was serious.

Huddle Up: Something is going on with Bennett, who brust out of the fantasy gate with 3 TDs and 15 receptions in his first 3 games. In the 6 games since, Bennett hasn't scored and has only 17 catches.

New York Giants TE Martellus Bennett (knee) and WR Ramses Barden (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 12, and is listed as probable for Week 6.

Huddle Up: With WR Hakeem Nicks still a question mark, QB Eli Manning will still have a close-to-full arsenal either way with Bennett and Barden joining Victor Cruz, Domenik Hixon and rookie Rueben Randle.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said TE Martellus Bennett (knee) is undergoing tests on the hyperextended knee he suffered Week 5.

Huddle Up: After notching 15 catches for 185 yards and 3 TDs in the first 3 weeks of the season, Bennett has slowed down considerably with 4 grabs for 32 yards and no scores over the past two contests. Now comes the knee injury, and it'll be something to monitor throughout the week.

New York Giants TE Bear Pascoe is expected to enter training camp as the starting tight end and could be used more in the offense if TE Martellus Bennett is not comfortable with the offensive system when the season starts.

Huddle Up: Bennett is overweight. Hopefully he'll shed some pounds and get in gear. Bear Pascoe is a blocking tight end.

New York Giants TE Martellus Bennett said some of the routes he has been running are similar to the ones he ran when he has with the Dallas Cowboys. 'A lot of the stuff we did in Dallas was similar to the things they do here. They just added a couple of more options. I have to get used to the play-calling terminology because it's totally different from what we did in Dallas,' Bennett said.

Huddle Up: As of last month Bennett reportedly weighed (gulp) 291 lbs., so the only routes he's been running are to and from Burger King. Let's see if this sweltering heat knocks him down to a more manageable 280.

New York Giants TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring) has not been participating in organized team activities because of a hamstring injury. Tight ends coach Mike Pope said Bennett weighed 291 pounds last week and does not think Bennett's legs can support that weight while doing the things the team asks of him during workouts.

Huddle Up: Forget the hamstring, what's with the 291 lbs... Bennett was 260 when Dallas drafted him in 2008 (?).
