Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said DE Cliff Avril
could be used as a strongside linebacker next season because he
played the position when he was in college.
Huddle Up: Wherever he lines up, the Hawks will be counting on big plays from
Avril, who notched 29 sacks and 9 forced fumbles over the last 3
seasons with the Lions.

The Seattle Seahawks signed DE Cliff Avril to an undisclosed two-year contract Wednesday, March 13. Avril will join the team Thursday, March 14, to take a physical, which is not expected to be a problem. His deal will then be finalized.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to pursue Detroit Lions impending free-agent DE Cliff Avril when free agency begins.
Huddle Up: Armed with a bevy of cap-room space, the Browns desperately need playmakers on both sides of the ball, and Avril -- who has 29 sacks and 9 forced fumbles over the past 3 seasons -- certainly fills the bill on defense.

Detroit Lions DE Cliff Avril (back), DT Sammie Hill (toe) and FS Louis Delmas (knee) are listed as questionable for Week 6. Delmas did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 12, while Avril fully participated and Hill was limited.
Huddle Up: With Detroit off to a 1-3 start and ranking 26th in the league with an average of 28.5 points allowed per game, the Lions need all defensive hands on deck.

Detroit Lions franchise free-agent DE Cliff Avril has signed his one-year tender offer and was expected to participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 5. Avril will make $10.6 million this season under the tender. Avril said he does not expect to play in the first preseason game Friday, Aug. 10, but the final decision will be made by head coach Jim Schwartz.
Huddle Up: This is the best news of late for the Lions, who seemingly have been dealing with players' off-field problems (Aaron Berry, Nick Fairley) and injury issues (RBs Jahvid Best, Mikel Leshoure) all offseason. Avril didn't get the long-term deal he wanted, but $10.6 mil is a hefty chunk of change for now. Detroit, meanwhile, could ill-afford to go ahead without their standout DE who recorded careers highs in sacks (11) and forced fumbles (6) last season while tacking on an interception and even a pair of return scores.

Detroit Lions DL Cliff Avril said during a radio interview Tuesday, July 10, that he is 'very optimistic' he'll get a long-term deal done before the deadline Monday, July 16, at 4 p.m. ET.
Huddle Up: Avril, a Should-Have-Been-Pro-Bowler last year, is seeking a four-year deal worth over $40 million with more than half guaranteed. He'll probably get just that. Avril logged 11 sacks, six forced fumbles, four passes defensed, and two TD-returns last season. His motor never stopped running.
