The St. Petersburg Times reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Johnson will remain the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Raheem Morris. 'It's Josh's football team right now,' Morris said. 'We'll see Josh Johnson. QB Josh Freeman's got to take advantage of any opportunity when or if the opportunity comes.' Johnson went 26-of-50 for 240 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also rushed five times for 40 yards.
The Huddle Take: The Bucs are losing, obviously, but Johnson's numbers against the Eagles were surprisingly good. He's no more than desperation bye week QB consideration, but he's at least worth a look if you're having problems at the position.

The Associated Press reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Johnson was 13-for-22 for 106 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception Week 4 in his first NFL start.
The Huddle Take: Not a wonderful passing outing, but when added to his rushing yards these numbers are not completely terrible from a fantasy standpoint for a bench player or bye week help. Obviously not someone to choose to start most weeks at this point, he's worth a bench spot depending on the league size you're in.

Anwar S. Richardson, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris indicated he may keep four quarterbacks on his roster, including QB Josh Johnson. "I'm going to keep the best 53 - I've said that from the beginning," Morris said. "Josh Johnson has shown a lot of savvy, a lot of the poise that you want. If (Josh) Freeman's going to be the leader of your football team, you want to have a young guy like Josh around - a guy who's smart, savvy, can go into a game and get you through it, a guy that's poised, athletic, makes good decisions, a guy who doesn't need many reps to go through it, as we've seen here in these games. Is he one of my best 53? Probably."
The Huddle Take: If the Bucs only keep Freeman and Johnson to back up Byron Leftwich, if the starter goes down they'll lack a veteran replacement as at least Luke McCown brings some experience to the table. And since Freeman is their quarterback of the future, Johnson is the guy squarely on the bubble. Maybe they're hoping this embarrassment of riches at the position will draw trade offers from teams who aren't similarly loaded.
