Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) will not participate in the offseason workouts because he is recovering from sports hernia surgery he had a few months ago. The team hopes he will be ready for training camp.

Huddle Up: Burton is coming off a season where he posted 569 yards and six touchdowns. He should see a solid amount of targets in 2019 and could be a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 1/7/2019 10:48pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (groin) said Monday, Jan. 7, that he missed the club's Wild Card playoff game Sunday, Jan. 6, after he 'started to feel something' in his groin following practice Friday, Jan. 4, despite initially having no limitations. By Saturday, Jan. 5, it had 'locked up,' which he said was his 'body's way of handling threats' to his health.

Huddle Up: Burton's presence was sorely missed against the Eagles, as Bears tight ends only managed to combine for five catches for 28 yards in his absence. The 27-year-old is coming off a solid debut campaign in Chicago in which he posted career highs across the board, recording 54 catches for 569 yards and six touchdowns. He's firmly in the TE1 picture going into drafts next year.

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (groin) will be a game-time decision Sunday, Jan. 6, after being added to the injury report the previous day with a groin injury.

Huddle Up: Injuries that crop up late week seldom turn out well, and second-year TE Adam Shaheen suddenly could find himself with a larger role if Burton can't go against his former team.

  • Posted: 12/23/2018 8:11pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught all five of his targets for 30 yards in a 14-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16.

Huddle Up: Burton has now been held to 40 yards are less in nine straight games, and he will remain a touchdown-dependent option for fantasy owners in the finale.

  • Posted: 12/16/2018 3:59pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton posted four grabs for 36 yards and a touchdown on seven targets in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers.

Huddle Up: It was Burton's first visit to the end zone since Nov. 4 in Buffalo, and his first score in front of the home fans since Oct. 21 in a loss against New England. He is only worth a look as a low-end TE1 in deeper fantasy leagues heading into Week 16 in San Francisco.

  • Posted: 12/9/2018 11:14pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught two of his five targets for 22 yards in Week 14 versus the Los Angeles Rams.

Huddle Up: Burton was able to keep himself fantasy-relevant for the first half of the season by finding the end zone on a fairly regular basis. That well has dried up over the last five contests, and the former Philadelphia Eagle has been almost useless in fantasy as a result. Even at a position in which owners are desperate for options, Burton will be hard to start in the fantasy playoffs the rest of the way.

  • Posted: 12/3/2018 5:28am ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton didn't record a catch in Week 13.

Huddle Up: Burton has a couple of four-catch games, but he really hasn't been much of a factor the last six weeks. He has slipped into TE2 territory, and time is running out to put enough faith in him to start him.

  • Posted: 11/22/2018 1:27pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught four passes for 28 yards against the Detroit Lions in Week 12.

Huddle Up: Burton was targeted seven times against the Lions, which is the most in five games. He has still been held to under 40 yards in four of the last five games but could still be a low-end No. 1 tight end next week.

  • Posted: 11/11/2018 3:26pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton posted four grabs for 40 yards in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.

Huddle Up: It wasn't a huge performance for Burton, but he was able to extend his streak with at least two catches to eight straight outings. He remains more of a low-end TE1 in deeper fantasy leagues heading into Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

  • Posted: 11/4/2018 2:53pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught two passes for 28 yards and one touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 9.

Huddle Up: Burton has recorded four touchdowns in his last three games but has been targeted four times or less in five of thee eight games this season. He could be a low-end No. 1 tight end next week but does not have a lot of value if he does not catch a touchdown.

  • Posted: 10/28/2018 5:54pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught three passes on four targets for 18 yards in a 24-10 win over the New York Jets in Week 8.

Huddle Up: Burton had scored in three straight games entering Week 8, but he ended up with his lowest receiving total since the opener. Chicago was content to run the ball after building an early lead, which played a role in Burton's lack of production. He should remain a TE1 candidate moving forward.

  • Posted: 10/21/2018 4:17pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton posted game bests with nine catches and 126 yards in the Week 7 game against the New England Patriots while scoring a touchdown with 11 targets.

Huddle Up: Burton got off to a bit of a slow start with his new team, but he has now found the end zone in three consecutive outings. He'll look to make it four games in a row in Week 8 against the visiting Jets. Treat Burton as a low-end TE1 in most fantasy leagues for that matchup.

  • Posted: 10/14/2018 3:48pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton ended up with four receptions, 23 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins.

Huddle Up: Burton hasn't posted huge number, but he has three total touchdowns, including scores in each of the past two outings. He remains a decent TE2 in most fantasy formats heading into Week 7 against the New England Patriots.

  • Posted: 9/30/2018 2:20pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught two passes for 86 yards and one touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.

Huddle Up: Burton is starting to become a bigger factor in the passing game and has improved his receiving yards each week. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end against most opponents.

  • Posted: 9/23/2018 11:36pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton finished with 55 yards on four catches in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Huddle Up: Burton's production thus far has been underwhelming, although he saved his fantasy day last week with a touchdown and set a season high in receiving yards in this one. Given the current landscape at tight end, owners likely have little choice but to hope Mitch Trubisky can start showing some signs of improvement soon. Burton figures to be a low-end TE1 option in Week 4 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • Posted: 9/17/2018 9:24pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton had four grabs for 20 yards and a touchdown on his four targets in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, Sept. 17.

Huddle Up: The touchdown was nice for Burton, but he still has just five catches and 35 yards through two games on 10 targets. He'll need to bump up those totals before becoming a regular outside of the deepest of fantasy formats. The Bears travel to meet the Cardinals in Week 3.

  • Posted: 9/9/2018 9:48pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught one of his six targets for 15 yards in a 24-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1.

Huddle Up: Only Allen Robinson was targeted more than Burton, so there should be better days ahead for the tight end. That being said, it looks like an adjustment period between he and Mitchell Trubisky is going to be needed, so you might want to find an alternative starter for Week 2.

  • Posted: 8/18/2018 9:23pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton caught four passes on five targets for 45 yards and touchdown against the Denver Broncos in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 18.

Huddle Up: Burton is positioned for a possible breakout campaign, and if you wait until late in your draft to address the tight end position, he could be worth taking a chance on as a low-end TE1.
