The Oakland Raiders restructured QB Matt Flynn's contract and converted much of his $3.25 million base salary into a signing bonus. The move saved the team about $1 million against the salary cap.
Huddle Up: Flynn's move cleared the way for DB Charles Woodson to be signed as the cash-strapped Raiders scrap for every cent.

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has named QB Matt Flynn the team's starting quarterback as offseason workouts are set to begin; however, he will continue to compete for the starting job.
Huddle Up: Terrelle Pryor is also expected to get a long look in Oakland, but they key will be which back can hand the ball ever-so-gently to Darren McFadden so as not to injure him. It's a competition that will barely register on the fantasy radar, though Oakland receivers would take a significant hit if Pryor wrests the starting gig from Flynn.

There is a good chance the Oakland Raiders will take a quarterback with one of their seven selections in the NFL Draft, with only QBs Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor currently on the roster. However, they are not expected to use the No. 3 overall selection on a quarterback.
Huddle Up: Nothing new here as the Silver & Black continues its perennial search for a QB. Trivia time: Since the Raiders' Super Bowl season of 2002, 15 QBs have made starts for the franchise, but only one -- Jason Campbell (2010-11) -- has posted a winning record.

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie indicated QB Matt Flynn will have to compete with QB Terrelle Pryor for the starting quarterback job next season.
Huddle Up: This one will pretty much be decided by what offense the Raiders decide to run. Flynn is more suited for a West Coast and/or classic pro style offense; Pryor has the athleticism to be more of a threat as a read-option quarterback. If Flynn wins the job, Oakland's wide receivers may actually have some fantasy value; otherwise, not so much.

The Oakland Raiders acquired QB Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks for a 2014 draft pick and a conditional pick in 2015.
Huddle Up: Seattle gets no immediate return on the minimal investment they sunk into Flynn last offseason; meanwhile, the Raiders get to replace Carson Palmer with someone other than Terrelle Pryor. Consider this a modest win for the fantasy value of Oakland wideouts.

The Oakland Raiders appear close to trading for Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn.
Huddle Up: There were too many QB-needy teams for the Seahawks to squat on Flynn for too long, and with Carson Palmer refusing to rework his deal in Oakland the Raiders definitely fall into that category. Flynn's arrival in Oakland would provide a fantasy boost for Raider receivers.

Several NFL sources have identified the Jacksonville Jaguars as the most likely destination for Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn, and sources said a trade could materialize before the NFL Draft in April. The Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders are also believed to be interested in a deal.
Huddle Up: There was some speculation that Seattle would end up releasing Flynn, but there are simply too many QB-needy teams for someone not to put together a solid trade offer. The Raiders -- if Carson Palmer gets released -- and the Bills likely are in more desperate need of a QB than the Jags, but it sounds like Jacksonville may the front-runner to land Flynn, who has attempted 141 career passes in 5 NFL seasons.

The Seattle Seahawks could consider releasing QB Matt Flynn this offseason if they select a backup to QB Russell Wilson during the 2013 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Flynn would have a good chance to start for several teams, but the QB's contract appears to be scaring off potential trade partners.

The Seattle Seahawks would like to trade QB Matt Flynn this offseason.
Huddle Up: Seattle signed Flynn to a relatively inexpensive deal last offseason, then watched Russell Wilson grab the starting job and refuse to let go. There are enough QB-needy teams that Seattle should get a mid- to late-round pick in exchange for Flynn's services.
Posted: 2/28/2013 11:23pm et
The Seattle Seahawks are open to trading QB Matt Flynn this offseason because they know he wants to be a starting quarterback but would like to keep him as QB Russell Wilson's backup.
Huddle Up: With Alex Smith headed to K.C., Flynn inherits the mantle of best veteran QB on the market, and the Hawks likely are counting on some interested teams to start upping their antes.
Posted: 2/24/2013 1:04pm et
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he is in favor of keeping QB Matt Flynn instead of looking to trade him this offseason. 'To have a caliber of second quarterback like Matt, you can't get better than that,' Carroll said. 'That's a great deal for us. And so we're very solidly in favor of keeping that together if we could.'
Huddle Up: Ideally, keeping Flynn around as insurance in back of starter Russell Wilson would work, but the Seahawks would have to be set salary-cap wise and not have many needs at other positions to afford keeping a high-priced No. 2 QB on board.
Posted: 1/23/2013 11:06am et
Updating a previous item, the Seattle Seahawks have told QB Matt Flynn they are willing to trade him; however, finding a trade partner will be problematic because several teams expect Flynn will be cut.
Huddle Up: Maybe the fact that Seattle has Russell Wilson keeps Flynn's trade value down, but he's still a quarterback with upside and a reasonable contract in a league where multiple teams need help at the position. What will really hurt Flynn's trade value as far as the Seahawks are concerned is the likelihood that they won't trade him within the division, removing the QB-needy Cardinals from the bidding.
Posted: 1/23/2013 12:39am et
The Seattle Seahawks are expected to be willing to trade QB Matt
Flynn, but it'll be hard for them to find a trade partner when many
other teams expect Seattle to outright cut him.
Huddle Up: It's hard to imagine Flynn hitting the waiver wire with quality QBs
in such short supply. And while it's true that Flynn remains largely
unproven, his potential likely will be too good to pass up.
Posted: 1/20/2013 12:20pm et
The New York Jets could show interest in Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn if the Seahawks are willing to trade him this offseason. Flynn has experience in the West Coast offense, which is what the team is expected to run next season.
Huddle Up: The Jets definitely need some legitimate competition for Mark Sanchez, who struggled mightily -- along with the rest of the offense, to be fair -- this past season, and Flynn would appear to fill that bill after finding himself the odd-man out in Seattle.
Posted: 1/15/2013 10:31pm et
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said it would be nice to have another quarterback on the roster that has the similar skillset to that of QB Russell Wilson. 'We've talked a lot about that,' Carroll said. 'It would be nice to have another guy that might be able to be a factor that way. There's some really good kids out there. We'll see.' It remains to be seen if Seattle is willing to trade QB Matt Flynn.
Huddle Up: All signs point to Flynn hitting the trading block this offseason, and it'll be interesting to see if a team is willing to take on a mega-bucks contract for a mostly unproven player.
Posted: 1/6/2013 10:37pm et
The Seattle Seahawks likely will be willing to listen to trade offers for QB Matt Flynn this offseason.
Huddle Up: Flynn's big-$$$ contact will be an obstacle, but it's a must-move for the Seahawks given Russell Wilson's rise to rookie stardom.
Posted: 12/10/2012 12:03pm et
Seattle Seahawks backup QB Matt Flynn saw his first regular season action since joining the Seahawks. He finished 5 of 9 for 68 yards in relief.
Huddle Up: As if the 58-0 drubbing of the Cardinals wasn't enough, Seattle showed they have two competent quarterbacks--two more than currently on the Arizona roster. Flynn was given a chance to shake off the rust and perhaps remind other teams around the league he's available for a trade.
Posted: 10/1/2012 3:56pm et
Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn (elbow) continues to be slowed by an elbow injury, and he hasn't been able to take on a full load during practices. 'We have a little bit of a problem with Matt,' head coach Pete Carroll said. 'Matt's still not full-speed. Anybody that thinks, OK, let's go with the other guy, well, he can't practice yet.'
Huddle Up: Well that settles that. Stay tuned.
Posted: 9/6/2012 11:38pm et
Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn (elbow) and OT James Carpenter (knee) were limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 6.
Huddle Up: Russell Wilson may have earned the starting gig with his stellar preseason play, but he might've wound up starting Week 1 anyway with Flynn's lingering elbow issue.
Posted: 8/24/2012 8:07pm et
Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn (elbow) is not expected to play in the third preseason game Friday, Aug. 24, because of a sore elbow.
Huddle Up: The Seahawks already had announced that rookie Russell Wilson will be starting, and it will be the third-rounder's show in his bid to win the starting QB gig. If Wilson plays like he has in Seattle's first two games, he will become the favorite to start Week 1 despite Flynn's solid preseason.
Posted: 8/8/2012 12:20pm et
Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn will play the entire first half in the team's preseason opener. Rookie Russell Wilson will play the second half.
Huddle Up: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the team knows what it has in Tarvaris Jackson (don't we all?) so he'll use the first exhibition game to take a look at the team's new QBs. Flynn is widely expected to win the starting gig; hopefully Carroll will reach that same conclusion and make the move official sooner rather than later.
Posted: 8/7/2012 4:41pm et
Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn will start in Saturday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
Huddle Up: Of the league's QB battles this August, the three-man duel in Seattle is the most intriguing with Flynn, the free-agent signee from Green Bay, duelling incumbent Tarvaris Jackson and rookie third-round pick Russell Wilson. Flynn has shined in a couple of starts in place of Aaron Rodgers over the past 2 seasons, but now he has the chance to take command of his own offense, and football and fantasy fans alike are eager to see how he fares. A strong preseason showing paired with his previous standout performances in Green Bay will send Flynn's fantasy draft stock soaring.
