Huddle Up: Johnson will be battling for a role in the 49ers receiver rotation; that he's been cleared to practice means that at least he won't be starting behind the others in the competition.
Posted: 6/27/2014 12:36am ET
Huddle Up: Johnson is only one injury-addled year removed from a run of three straight seasons with at least 76 receptions, 1,004 yards and 6 TDs in Buffalo so a fresh start sparking a return to form certainly isn't out of the question.

Huddle Up: With the addition of Sammy Watkins, Johnson became expendable in Buffalo. The Niners have plenty of need for a productive receiver, and for the low low cost of a fourth-round pick they have one in the veteran Johnson.

Huddle Up: Hampered by injuries, Johnson hit a 4-year low with 52 catches, 597 yards and 3 TDs this past season and clearly becomes expendable with the Bills' young WR corps, headed up by Watkins and 2013 2nd-round pick Robert Woods.
Posted: 3/10/2014 2:13pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson's production trailed off dramatically last season, and the Bills were pleased with the progress of rookie wideouts Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin. If Buffalo intends to move beyond Stevie, prior to shelling out $1.75 mil would be a good time to do so.
Posted: 2/3/2014 8:17pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson's days as the go-to receiver in Buffalo are likely numbered, and that $1.75 million bonus could be the final straw as the Bills turn to Robert Woods, T.J. Graham and Marquise Goodwin.

Huddle Up: Johnson and E.J. Manuel have both been ruled out for Week 17. Expect Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller to busy against the Patriots' weak rush defense on Sunday.

Huddle Up: Keep an eye on his status throughout the week.

Huddle Up: Johnson is dealing with a death in the family, and indications are he won't play this week.
Posted: 12/19/2013 12:43pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson continues to deal with a death in the family. He played through the situation last week; one could presume he's familiar enough with the game play to do the same this week.

Huddle Up: Condolences to Johnson and his family.
Posted: 12/16/2013 10:50pm ET
Huddle Up: Condolences to the Bills' No. 1 WR. Keep an eye out for updates later this week.

Huddle Up: Condolences to Johnson and his family. Expect him to miss practice time this week to attend to arrangements.
Posted: 11/29/2013 5:03pm ET
Huddle Up: Finally some good news for Johnson's fantasy owners who have had to do without the WR for the past 2 weeks because of the injury and the Bills' Week 12 bye. This also means QB EJ Manuel's fantasy value gets a slight uptick with his No. 1 WR back.
Posted: 11/28/2013 7:08pm ET
Huddle Up: After missing Week 11 and then getting the Week 12 bye to recover, it looks like Johnson is on track to play Sunday vs. the Falcons, giving QB EJ Manuel's fantasy stock a bump.
Posted: 11/27/2013 5:49pm ET
Huddle Up: He has a pretty good matchup this week against the Falcons.
Posted: 11/19/2013 11:16am ET
Huddle Up: Hooray! Stevie's back! Actually, the Bills' passing game didn't look too bad with T.J. Graham and Marquise Goodwin doing the damage, so Stevie may not have as significant role as he did previously.
Posted: 11/18/2013 5:08pm ET
Huddle Up: It seemed like he had a shot to play in Week 11, so this isn't unexpected. The Bills did just fine without him, but he should get back to that No. 1 role when he returns.
Posted: 11/15/2013 1:14pm ET
Huddle Up: The Bills' leading receiver will miss his second game of the season -- a big loss for rookie QB EJ Manuel who is in his second game back from a knee injury.
Posted: 11/14/2013 1:17pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson is now 2-for-2 in missed practices this week, increasing the likelihood that the Bills' leading pass-catcher will miss the Week 11 contest against the Jets. See how the rest of the week goes, though, before making a final decision in your fantasy lineup.

Huddle Up: Updating an earlier report. It looks like you might need to plan to be without Johnson and Robert Woods this week. This is a huge drag on the Buffalo offense.
Posted: 11/13/2013 2:55pm ET
Huddle Up: Keep an eye on Johnson's status throughout the week. Hopefully he can go this weekend.
Posted: 11/11/2013 12:20pm ET
Huddle Up: If you're planning to use Stevie this week, you'll need to pay attention to the injury reports. The Bills would love to get Robert Woods back from injury; he'd step into Buffalo's WR1 void should he be healthy and Stevie not.
Posted: 10/18/2013 9:37pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson will start after missing one game. However, considering the uncertainty of Buffalo's quarterback position right now, he's a risky play. If you have better options, leave Johnson on the bench this week.
Posted: 10/18/2013 1:57pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson went from a limited practice participant Wednesday to a full participant Thursday, so he's definitely progressed in the right direction this week. His fantasy owners now must hope his sagging stat line follows suit.
Posted: 10/17/2013 4:10pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson was able do more than he did while practicing on a limited basis Wednesday, so it's looking pretty good that the WR will return after sitting out this past week. Overall, Johnson has only 3 receptions for 18 yards since Week 3.
Posted: 10/16/2013 6:05pm ET
Huddle Up: The Bills need him, especially if their quarterback situation continues to be this tough. He probably won't have a good week if he does play.
Posted: 10/11/2013 3:50pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson is banged up and he's going to have Jeff Tuel throwing to him even if he does play. If you can afford to sit Johnson this week for another viable option, do it.
Posted: 10/4/2013 5:58pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson, who's had 3 catches for 18 yards over the past 2 games, will have a few extra days to recover as the Bills don't play again until Oct. 13, but now there's also the team's QB situation to factor in as starter EJ Manuel (knee) could be out a month.
Posted: 10/3/2013 10:31pm ET
Huddle Up: Johnson suffered the injury in the first quarter but did return briefly in the second before heading into the lockerroom early with 2 catches for 19 yards. His return is doubtful, and figuring in his 1-catch, minus-1-yard outing in Week 4, his strong start to the season is beginning to seem like a distant memory.
Posted: 10/1/2013 8:50pm ET
Huddle Up: We haven't heard that Johnson is in danger of missing Thursday's game as he played last week with the same injury. Still, it may have played a role in the wideout's horrible showing (1 catch for a negative yard) in the game, and up next are CB Joe Haden and the Browns on a short week.
Posted: 9/27/2013 10:31am ET
Huddle Up: Johnson always seems to be nicked, but he usually seems to play through the injury as well. It's a concern, but his track record suggests he'll play and play well this weekend.
Posted: 9/3/2013 5:05pm ET
Huddle Up: He has a point, at least from a fantasy perspective. Johnson has done well in the past against the Patriots, and it stands to reason they will be throwing the ball a lot in garbage time, which should start sometime before halftime given all the injuries the Bills have.
Posted: 8/15/2013 12:58am ET
Huddle Up: Johnson is likely to miss all of the preseason. He's hoping to be ready for the opener but even that is uncertain at this point. Johnson is productive when healthy but hamstring injuries can linger and with the possibility of Buffalo starting a rookie QB, Johnson is setting up to be a bit of a risky fantasy pick this season.
Posted: 8/3/2013 11:39am ET
Huddle Up: Hamstring injuries can linger so this is something for fantasy owners to keep an eye on. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal that a veteran like Johnson is missing time but the Bills are installing a new offensive system and he hasn't worked much with quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and E.J. Manuel. Given the Bills' shaky QB situation this season, Johnson is best suited as a WR3 for fantasy purposes.
Posted: 8/2/2013 5:29pm ET
Huddle Up: The good news for Johnson's fantasy owners is that it's a strain and not a pull. And if he missed a preseason game or 2, no real worries as it'll give him time to heal for the games that count.
Posted: 8/2/2013 12:40pm ET
Huddle Up: We'll wait for the results of the MRI before starting to worry, but hamstring issues tend to linger.
Posted: 8/2/2013 11:27am ET
Huddle Up: Still way too early to hit the panic button, but hamstring issues tend to linger so keep an eye on Stevie's status. If he's out for any length of time it means more reps for young receivers Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin.
Posted: 8/1/2013 12:27pm ET
Huddle Up: Buffalo has a bevy of young receivers who can play outside; if they perform well enough to allow Johnson to work the slot, it's a win-win for the Bills--and for fantasy owners who grab Stevie.
