The Cleveland Browns released WR Davone Bess, WR Brian Tyms and LB Paul Hazel.

Huddle Up: Bess accomplished the double-whammy of underachieving on the field while also racking up some off-the-field baggage. That's not going to sit well with a new regime; hence he'll be looking for a new NFL home.

The Cleveland Browns plan to void the $3.067 million base salary that is guaranteed to WR Davone Bess for next season because he was not able to play in the final few games of the 2013 season. Bess will have the right to challenge the decision if the team does void the guaranteed money. The Browns could keep Bess on their roster and allow him to earn the salary next season.

Huddle Up: With the Browns cleaning house from top to bottom, it only figures to be a matter of time for Bess, who definitely didn't help himself with his recent trouble involving a strange airport incident.

Posted: 1/17/2014 12:25pm et

Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess was arrested for assaulting an officer/firefighter at Fort Lauderdale International Airport Friday, Jan. 17. Bess appeared to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic at the time of his arrest. Police responded to passenger complaints of a black man at a TSA checkpoint 'acting irrationally, dancing, singing with his pants repeatedly falling down.' When cops arrived, Bess grabbed a cup of coffee that didn't belong to him off a nearby counter and squeezed it so hard it splashed all over the cop. He got into a fighting stance and was struck by the cop in the leg with a baton. The cop said the strike had no effect. Bess took his shirt off and got into a fighting stance again. He surrendered when backup arrived.

Huddle Up: Too many punchlines for one note here; you can go ahead and fill in the blanks. On the bright side, there is no Browns coach to discipline Bess at the moment, though we're pretty confident the league will have a little chat with Bess once he puts his clothes back on and settles down.

Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess will start opposite WR Greg Little in the regular season opener Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Miami Dolphins. He claims it will just be another game when he faces the team that traded him away. 'Things happen,' Bess said. 'We all know how this business is. When I got traded, it was in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins. I'm a Cleveland Brown now. No grudges at all. I'm thankful to be here.'

Huddle Up: He could be hyped up and have a big game, but Bess has never really done much in the fantasy realm. He could see increased looks with Josh Gordon serving a suspension, but his value lies in PPR leagues. He's not really start-worthy.

Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess said he had a fracture in the L2 vertebrae in his back last season, which kept him out of the final three games. There was some tension with him and the Miami Dolphins over it.

Huddle Up: Bess is presumably healthy, no longer in Miami, and will work the slot for the Browns.

Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess could start while WR Josh Gordon serves his two-game suspension.

Huddle Up: Bess, who's had at least 51 receptions in each of his 5 NFL seasons, has the chance to make an early impression with his new team -- a team desperate for offensive playmakers -- and carve out a role for himself even after Gordon returns.

The Cleveland Browns acquired WR Davone Bess from the Miami Dolphins Friday, April 26. Cleveland sent their their fourth- and fifth-round picks to Miami for Bess and the Dolphins' fourth- and seventh-round picks. Shortly after the trade, Bess received a three-year contract extension.

Huddle Up: Bess will provide a nice slot target while Josh Gordon and presumably Greg Little work the outside. Bess had become superfluous in Miami; he'll be a welcome addition to the Browns' passing game in Cleveland, albeit one with limited fantasy value.

Posted: 4/25/2013 12:07pm et

The Miami Dolphins are highly likely to trade WR Davone Bess to the Cleveland Browns for mid-round picks.

Huddle Up: The Browns are in need of pass-catchers, and Bess is steady and serviceable slot option, having averaged 64 catches and 689 yards over his 5 seasons in Miami.
