Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams will have the first opportunity to secure the starting running back job, according to general manager Brett Veach.

Huddle Up: Williams put up strong numbers after replacing Kareem Hunt as the starter. As long as he enters 2019 as the clear No. 1 back, he should at least be able to deliver high-end RB2 numbers in such a potent offense.

  • Posted: 1/20/2019 7:23pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams rushed 10 times for 30 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 66 yards and two scores in a 37-31 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 20.

Huddle Up: Williams didn't do much on the ground, but an early deficit had a lot to do with that. Still, he showcased his versatility once again, and since taking over as the starter, he has left no doubt that he can be a workhorse for the Kansas City backfield. Williams will have RB1 potential entering 2019.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams ran 25 times for 129 yards and a touchdown in a divisional playoff win versus the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Jan. 12. He also caught five passes for 25 yards.

Huddle Up: Spencer Ware must be sweating profusely after Williams' performance today and over the last several games. Ware and Williams may very well comprise a committee in 2019 as Williams has deservedly played himself into a larger role.

  • Posted: 1/12/2019 12:44pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams is expected to be the starting running back for the Chiefs in the Divisional Round playoff game.

Huddle Up: Williams has played well while Spencer Ware has been sidelined and should receive a solid amount of touches during the game. He can be considered a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/30/2018 7:43pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams rushed 11 times for 51 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for eight yards in a 35-3 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 17.

Huddle Up: Williams didn't need to shoulder a big load with the Chiefs putting this one out of reach early, but his position as the lead back is secure, and he should be one of the better backs for fantasy owners in playoff contests.

  • Posted: 12/27/2018 5:40pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with the Chiefs Thursday, Dec. 27, worth as much as $8.1 million.

Huddle Up: Williams has played well over the last few games and could compete for the starting job next season. He can be considered at least a No. 2 running back while Spencer Ware is sidelined and can be a No. 2 back next season if he wins the starting job.

  • Posted: 12/23/2018 8:27pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams ran 13 times for 103 yards in Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks for his first-career 100-yard game, and he added seven grabs for 37 yards and a score.

Huddle Up: Williams has taken advantage of the release of Kareem Hunt and an injury to Spencer Ware to shine in the past two games. The Chiefs still have a meaningful game in Week 17, so he'll be a fantasy option again if Ware is sidelined.

  • Posted: 12/23/2018 9:18am ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams is expected to start and receive the majority of the running-back workload in Week 16 on Sunday, Dec. 23, with fellow RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) expected to miss a second straight game.

Huddle Up: Williams totaled 123 yards and two touchdowns on 16 touches in Week 15 when Ware sat out and even in the in prior game when Ware played, it was Williams who had the better fantasy day with two TDs and 30 yards on 12 touches. That makes Williams a strong RB2 start Sunday night in Seattle.

  • Posted: 12/13/2018 9:23pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams accounted for 123 total yards (49 rushing, 74 receiving) and two touchdowns during the team's Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Huddle Up: With Spencer Ware sidelined by a bum hammy, Williams stepped in and played big, looking decisive and flashing some serious wheels. Unless Ware's injury lingers, however, Williams is likely headed back to a complementary role in Week 16. Keep an eye on Ware's health and any hints about Williams' potential usage heading into next Sunday.

  • Posted: 12/9/2018 6:11pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams rushed eight times for 14 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 16 yards and another score in a 27-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14.

Huddle Up: Williams may have scored twice, but Spencer Ware was the more utilized and more effective back. Williams is worth rostering in case Ware goes down, but he isn't starter material.
