Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford won't be throwing more than he did last season, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Caldwell said if the Lions are throwing a lot, it could very well mean they'll be playing catch up, something he wants to avoid.

Huddle Up: With 602 attempts, Stafford hit a four-year low this past season -- and that was the same for his passing yards (4,257) as he finished 15th among fantasy QBs. Obviously, throwing fewer passes isn't exactly the recipe for a return to QB1 territory.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has completed 75.9 percent of his passes, thrown for 701 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in the last two weeks against the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "I feel good. I feel confident in what we're doing and I think the guys in the locker room and on offense definitely feel confident in what our game plan is each week," Stafford said. "We're doing a great job of going out there and trying to execute. Guys are catching the ball, which is always great."

Huddle Up: Stafford, who had only two 300-yard games in his first 11 contests, has matched that total over the last 2 weeks, and he closes out the season with a trio of decent matchups, although the final two will be outside with the possibility of inclement conditions likely in Chicago and Green Bay.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and the offense operated at quicker pace in their Week 13 win over the Chicago Bears Thursday, Nov. 27, and they were able 474 yards of total offense. Stafford went 34-for-45 for 390 yards and two touchdowns, and he appeared much more comfortable in the offense. His 75.6 completion percentage was the fourth best of his career. Stafford was also at his best against the blitz, completing a career-high 14 passes for a career-high 200 yards.

Huddle Up: The favorable defensive matchup also benefited Stafford and Co. as the QB hit a season-high with the 390-yard effort -- only his second 300-yard game since Week 1.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford, who is currently on pace to finish with the fewest passing yards in a single season for his career, has struggled on deep-ball connections, especially in the last two weeks with WR Calvin Johnson returning. Stafford has completed only 14 percent of his passes at least 20 yards downfield to Johnson the last two weeks, and he's thrown an interception on deep targets in each of the pair's four full games together. Stafford is also struggling in the face of pressure this year, with his completion percentage under pressure dropping from 42 percent last year to 34 percent in 2014, his lowest since 2010.

Huddle Up: Stafford was predicted by many to have a huge a season but it's been just the opposite. Despite the addition of Golden Tate and rookie TE Eric Ebron, Stafford has been a fantasy disappointment in 2014. That's not likely to change over the final six weeks.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he's more comfortable than ever with his secondary options after playing a big chunk of this season without WR Calvin Johnson (ankle). 'The more experience and the better everybody else plays, the less you feel like you have to get 81 the ball, but it's still conducive to playing good offense to get the best receiver on the planet the ball as much as you can,' Stafford said. The Lions have also been without RBs Reggie Bush, Theo Riddick and Joique Bell and TEs Brandon Pettigrew, Eric Ebron and Joseph Fauria and OT LaAdrian Waddle. The result is a more patient Stafford. Johnson's return in Week 10 should allow for more of the secondary options like WR Golden Tate to see single coverage.

Huddle Up: The absences, however -- particularly Johnson's -- have hurt Stafford's fantasy numbers as he's currently ranked 14th among QBs with 171 points. Look for him to climb back into QB1 range, though, if Megatron returns, as expected, this Sunday and remains healthy down the stretch.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford showed improved footwork in his ability to climb the pocket when he was pressured in Week 1 against the New York Giants Monday, Sept. 8, his first start in the Jim Caldwell era. Sloppy footwork has been part of Stafford's problems in the past. He also seemed to make a conscious effort not to force passes to receivers that weren't open. Stafford finished the victory going 22-for-32 for 346 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a rushing touchdown.

Huddle Up: Stafford came through in a big way for his fantasy owners Monday night, and his mobility shouldn't be a total surprise given that he's rushed for 7 TDs since the start of the 2012 season. With Stafford's apparent improved decision making and the weapons added to his offensive arsenal, though, don't be surprised if he enjoys his best fantasy season since 2011, when he threw for 41 TDs and finished fifth among fantasy QBs.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said Tuesday, April 22, that he can already see a rapport between QB Matthew Stafford and new target WR Golden Tate. 'Matthew is certainly getting a good feel for Golden,' Caldwell said. 'Those two I think are going to function well.'

Huddle Up: Tate, who established career highs with 64 catches and 898 yards last season in Seattle, should eclipse those numbers in 2014 -- even going from a No. 1 to No. 2 wideout. That's what playing opposite Calvin Johnson can do for a WR who can stay healthy and take advantage of the opportunity.
