Nick Scurfield, of HoustonTexans.com, reports Texans LB Brian Cushing will do drill work this week with linebackers coach Johnny Holland after practice, but he is not ready to participate in practice yet. Head coach Gary Kubiak called it a "far reach" as of now to say Cushing would play in the team's preseason game Aug. 31.
The Huddle Take: It's beginning to look like a lost preseason for the Texans' first-round pick. The good news is that Houston has Zac Diles and Xavier Adibi so they're not lost at linebacker.

Nick Scurfield, of HoustonTexans.com, reports Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing is expected to be ready for the team's regular-season opener, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Kubiak does not expect Cushing to play against the Minnesota Vikings Aug. 31.
The Huddle Take: The oft-injured Cushing is working his way back from a knee injury this time. With Cato June sidelined 6-8 weeks with a broken arm, the Houston linebacking corps is a little on the thin side. Zac Diles is working in place of Cushing at strong-side linebacker, with Xavier Adibi starting on the weak side.

The Associated Press reports Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing will miss the team's preseason opener with a left knee injury. Cushing missed the morning practice session Wednesday, Aug. 12. Head coach Gary Kubiak said the knee started bothering Cushing Tuesday, Aug. 11, and he was taken for an MRI. The severity of the injury was not immediately known. Kubiak said he expects Cushing to miss some time, but is unsure how much.
The Huddle Take: Houston does have some depth at the position, with Cato June and Xavier Adibi available to step in for Cushing. It's tough for rookies to miss valuable reps, so the Texans will obviously get Cushing back on the field as soon as possible.
