The Detroit News reports Detroit Lions rookie TE Brandon Pettigrew (thigh) may have missed most of training camp due to a thigh injury, but he will be in the starting lineup during Week 1. He should bolster the team's running game due to his blocking ability, while also providing a big target for as a receiving option.
The Huddle Take: Both of the teams first round draft picks will be on the field to start week 1. While they both will struggle, Pettigrew probably has the better fantasy upside short term at least. His limited play in the preseason looked pretty good and showcased the skills he was drafted for. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that he finds himself having a solid second tier TE fantasy season as a rookie.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Detroit Lions rookie TE Brandon Pettigrew (quadriceps) is unlikely to play in the team's second preseason game and may be out of action for a while beyond that. Head coach Jim Schwartz said the team is shutting Pettigrew down because his of injured quadriceps. The injury has not responded as well as the team had hoped.
The Huddle Take: The Lions were expecting Pettigrew to be a substantial contributor this season, as he showed a rare explosiveness for a big man at Oklahoma State. This is not only a setback for Pettigrew, but for the entire Detroit offense as well.

The NFL Network, reports Detroit Lions rookie TE Brandon Pettigrew's five-year deal is worth a max of $14.6 million, with $9.4 million in guaranteed money.
The Huddle Take: Pettigrew will likely see the majority of the work as the starting tight end for the Lions this season, however the short passing game may be limited at times since Detroit figures to be throwing the ball down field early and often. The Lions almost certainly will find themselves behind as they have been for the last few seasons.

The Detroit Lions have selected Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew with the 20th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
The Huddle Take: A solid tight end is often times a young quarterback's best friend; as an added bonus, Pettigrew is also a solid blocker and should help Kevin Smith and the Lions' running game as much as Matt Stafford and the passing attack.
