Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said the team will use RB Shonn Greene in different ways next season and not only as a short yardage back. "We're not going to have him as a short-yardage back, a goal-line back and four-minute back and that's all he does. We feel he can play all three downs. He may get a series where he gets going and we're taking over the line of scrimmage and you want that runner in there and we leave him in there," Munchak said.

Huddle Up: Green is by definition a short-yardage back, because the vast majority of his carries result in short yardage. And he'll only be effective if the Titans are, as Munchak puts it, taking over the line of scrimmage. He's insurance and a backup plan to Chris Johnson, with a worst-case fantasy scenario being that he houses any goal-line opportunities CJ used to get.

The Tennessee Titans want to sign free-agent RB Shonn Greene during his visit Wednesday, March 13.

Huddle Up: Greene would give the Titans an intriguing thunder/lightning backfield combo, with Chris Johnson and Greene at diametric opposites of the speed (and yards per carry) spectrum.

Free-agent RB Shonn Greene was a league-best 11-for-11 converting third-down runs of less than three yards last season.

Huddle Up: The thing about Greene is that most of his runs went for three yards or less. He could find work as a complementary back, but his only fantasy success will come as a goal line guy--and he'll need to be running behind a decent offensive line to do so.

The Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos are among the teams expected to show interest in New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene this offseason.

Huddle Up: Greene would be a good fit for both clubs, who need a between-the-tackles grinder. In Atlanta, Greene would step in as a younger, fresher of Michael Turner, who is expected to be released.

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene would be a good fit for the San Diego Chargers in the offseason. The team needs a legitimate running back because RB Ryan Mathews is not durable. If healthy, Mathews and Greene could be a good combination.

Huddle Up: Both players have been regarded as No. 1 fantasy backs, but this could be a productive pairing with Greene's ability to pound out yards between the tackles and Mathews' third-down skills.

New York Jets RB Shonn Greene and his team will face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. The Seahawks rush defense has allowed an NFL-high 502 yards over the past three games, and 6.2 yards per carry.

Huddle Up: Only a few weeks ago, Greene vs. the Seahawks' D in Seattle might've sounded like must-bench time for the RB, but don't overlook Greene, who's been a solid RB2 as he's tied with Michael Turner and Matt Forte at 17th overall with 90 fantasy points (Huddle Performance scoring).

New York Jets RB Shonn Greene played 65 of his team's 82 offensive snaps in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins. He was forced to carry a full load after RB Joe McKnight (ankle) aggravated his ankle injury.

Huddle Up: Although he didn't score, Greene was able to crack 100 total yards in the game with 106. The Jets say McKnight should be able to return in Week 10 after the team's bye, but either way, count on Greene shouldering the bulk of the load.

Posted: 10/22/2012 12:13pm et

New York Jets RB Shonn Greene said he was fine after suffering a head injury in the team's Week 7 game. "I'm good," Greene said repeatedly after the game. Head coach Rex Ryan did not provide an update following the game. Greene rushed for 54 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown, and he was used as the team's check-down option throughout the game. He caught six passes for 34 yards on nine targets.

Huddle Up: The touchdown and the pass catching are unusual for Greene, but with the Jets' backfield all kinds of banged up he was asked to do more--even after the injury--and to his credit Greene answered the bell. Tough to bank on him for success going forward given a yards-per-carry average that still hovers in the 3s, but if he remains the only show in town he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

New York Jets RB Shonn Greene (head) was taken to the locker room due to a head injury suffered in Week 7 against the New England Patriots. After passing required tests, he returned to the sideline and immediately donned his helmet.

Huddle Up: Greene took a hard shot to the helmet by Patriots LB Brandon Spikes following a fourth-quarter reception. He did re-enter the game in OT but did not log a carry following the injury. He finished with 54 yards and a TD on 16 rushes and 6 catches for 34 yards.

The next three opponents for the New York Jets rank among the top six in run defense, which puts pressure on the team to duplicate its 252-yard outburst in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts. The New England Patriots, their Week 7 opponent, allows 3.4 yards per carry, while the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks, the next two opponents, allow 3.3 yards per tote. RB Bilal Powell (shoulder) is unlikely to play in Week 7, and RB Joe McKnight (ankle) is uncertain to play, so the team will rely heavily upon RB Shonn Greene.

Huddle Up: After facing a rugged season-opening gauntlet of opposing run defenses -- which included the 49ers, Dolphins and Texans -- Greene and the Jets took full advantage of the Colts in Week 6. Hopefully Greene's fantasy owners were able to chas in on the matchup because the pickings look slim once again going forward.

New York Jets RB Shonn Greene collected 103 of his career-high 161 yards rushing between the tackles in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts, including all three of his touchdowns. Greene averaged 2.7 yards before contact on those rushes after averaging 1.5 yards before contact per rush over his first five games.

Huddle Up: Green's effort will likely put him back on rosters in every league he was dropped in. This is the kind of effort Greene's owners have thought he was capable of, unfortunately it came at a time where he was deemed unstartable. Proceed with caution, he is likely to turn back into a pumpkin.

Posted: 10/10/2012 12:18am et

New York Jets RB Shonn Greene technically remains the starting running back, although he was on the field for one fewer offensive snap than RB Bilal Powell in the team's Week 5 game Monday, Oct. 8, against the Houston Texans.

Huddle Up: Timeshare or not, the Jets' running game has been of no use to fantasy owners for the past month. Since a season-opening romp over the defenseless Bills, Greene and Powell have combined for exactly 230 rushing yards and no TDs on 76 carries -- a robust 5.75 fantasy points per game.

Posted: 10/3/2012 7:48pm et

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team is not going to change their running back depth chart even though RB Bilal Powell started Week 4 and received more playing time than RB Shonn Greene. Ryan said Powell received more time because of the personnel groups the team was using.

Huddle Up: For the record, Greene did wind up outrushing Powell (34 yards-11) in the game, but neither has done much of anything this season with Greene at 191 yards on 68 carries and Powell posting 99 on 26 attempts. They have one TD between them.

Posted: 9/26/2012 12:25pm et

The New York Jets plan to be patient and stick with RB Shonn Greene for now, despite the fact he was held under three yards per carry for the second consecutive game in Week 3. He is expected to see a bulk of the carries in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Huddle Up: While the Jets claim they're sticking with Greene, Bilal Powell essentially shared carries with Greene in the second half of last week's game. Consider Greene on a short leash.

Posted: 9/24/2012 8:02pm et

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team would like to get RB Shonn Greene playing better than he has in the first three games. Greene has averaged 2.8 yards per carry so far, and Ryan would like him to be averaging around four yards per carry.

Huddle Up: Backup Bilal Powell had the better game Sunday in Miami, rushing for 45 yards on 10 carries, while Greene only totalled 40 on 19 rushes. Expect to see more Powell unless Greene picks it up.

Posted: 8/5/2012 11:15pm et

The New York Jets plan to be more physical on offense, and they'll concentrate more on running the football. After being a primarily zone-running team with former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and Bill Callahan, new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano plans to put a greater emphasis on gap-scheme plays. He wants the team to thrive as a power running team, with the offensive linemen knocking defenders off the ball and the running backs like RB Shonn Greene plowing straight ahead at a designated gap. 'We can lead this league in rushing again,' running backs coach Anthony Lynn said. 'I have no question.'

Huddle Up: Greene definitely bears watching coming off a career year with 1,265 total yards and 6 total TDs. Not only is it a new scheme, but there's no LaDainian Tomlinson around any more. Tim Tebow is in town, though, and if he plays in goalline packages, he will definitely cut into Greene's TD potential.
