The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms with free-agent WR Brandon Tate on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Huddle Up: Tate's second season in Cincy was better than his first, but it still only netted 13 catches for 211 yards and a TD. Don't expect too much more as the Bengals try to find a reliable target opposite No. 1 wideout A.J. Green.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon Tate has been listed as a starting wide receiver opposite A.J. Green and ahead of WR Armon Binns on the team's first depth chart of training camp. Tate dealt with hamstring problems last week but returned to practice and played in the team's scrimmage Sunday, Aug. 5, catching a touchdown. Rookie Mohamaed Sanu was listed fourth on the depth chart.

Huddle Up: Tate hasn't been mentioned much this offseason; the Bengals drafted Sanu and Marvin Jones, and Binns drew some early praise during OTAs. There's no clear favorite, but if Tate continues to hang onto the job into the exhibition game schedule he'll have some fantasy value in larger PPR leagues.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said WR Brandon Tate was one of the standout players during workouts this offseason. "He's been one of the best surprises of camp for me," said Gruden. "Last year he came in late (after being acquired on waivers from New England) and was mainly a return guy and our fifth receiver and never really got in the flow with the group at wide receiver. Now I think he's more confident, he sees that he belongs as an NFL wide receiver, and I think the confidence level that he has is showing. He's got all the ability. He runs all of the routes great, he's got great feel, and he's done an outstanding job." Tate and Armon Binns are believed to be the frontrunners for the Bengals' No. 2 wide receiver job during training camp.

Huddle Up: With Cedric Benson gone and Andy Dalton developing, there's an opportunity for fantasy productivity opposite A.J. Green. Jordan Shipley will work out of the slot, leaving Tate and Binns to battle rookies Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones. And right now it sounds like Tate has the attention of Gruden, which doesn't hurt his chances.

Cincinnati Bengals WRs Armon Binns and Brandon Tate are competing for the No. 2 wide receiver job during organized team activities and offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said the competition is very close at this point.

Huddle Up: Remember, Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell left for Minnesota and Denver, respectively. But even though OC Jay Gruden says Armon Binns and Brandon Tate are the front-runners for the No. 2 spot, A.J. Green says rookie Mohamed Sanu (Rutgers) could be the guy. "He's going to be a special one," said Green.
