Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to get his share of opportunities in the Week 15 game against the New York Giants with RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) sidelined. 'This is a big opportunity for Cameron,' head coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday, Dec. 16. 'He's going to get some opportunities for sure. I'm excited about it. It's one of those things where we said when the time's right and Jonathan needs a break (Artis-Payne will get an opportunity), but Jonathan just kept rolling and rolling.'

Huddle Up: The rookie will be in the mix with Fozzy Whittaker and Mike Tolbert to pick up the slack left by Stewart's injury. While there's fantasy value to be had in the matchup, if it's being splintered three ways it's tough to bank on any of the committee members for fantasy help this week.

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne appears to be the main backup to RB Jonathan Stewart this season.

Huddle Up: The fifth-round pick led the Panthers in rushing this preseason with 139 yards and a TD on 30 carries and is pretty much a must-own handcuff for the fantasy owners of the not-so-reliable Jonathan Stewart.

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne has been having a strong training camp and could receive some carries this season. Artis-Payne has shown good power and agility during preseason games but averaged only 3.0 yards per carry in the first preseason game with four of his carries going for two yards or fewer.

Huddle Up: With no DeAngelo Williams to fall back on now in Carolina, the fifth-round pick out of Auburn could definitely emerge as an important figure with starter Jonathan Stewart having made it through only one full season in the last five years.

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne can carry the load in the event of an injury to RB Jonathan Stewart, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Huddle Up: The fifth-round pick may need to as Stewart -- depite his solid 990 total yards and foru TDs in 13 games last year -- has only played one full season in the last five.

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to win the No. 2 running back job behind starting RB Jonathan Stewart. Artis-Payne, a 2015 fifth-round draft choice, should play a significant role in the offense, in the opinion of's David Newton. Rookie RB Brandon Wegher and RB Fozzy Whittaker are likely to compete for the No. 3 job.

Huddle Up: Artis-Payne impressed by rushing for 1,608 yards and 13 TDs last season at Auburn and whomever wins the No. 2 gig could quickly find themselves as the Panthers' lead dog given Stewart's injury history.
