San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said RB Danny Woodhead could see time on first and second down in 2013 and will not be used as only a third-down back.

Huddle Up: Ryan Mathews keeper owners beware: This sounds like another season of shared work for your back.

The New England Patriots value impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead but may not be willing to pay him what he is looking for because they have depth at the running back position.

Huddle Up: Woodhead is one luxury the Pats can do without as Stevan Ridley stepped forward as a No. 1 back, while Shane Vereen emerged as a dual threat late in the season.

New England Patriots RB Danny Woodhead (thumb) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 17.

Huddle Up: Woodhead has gone from limited Wednesday to a full participant Thursday and now looks like he'll be the Pats' regular RB mix Sunday, joining Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said RB Danny Woodhead was available to go back into the team's playoff game Sunday, Jan. 13, if needed. Woodhead should be available for the AFC Championship Game.

Huddle Up: Shane Vereen's increase in touches was due largely to Woodhead's absence, so if Woodhead is healthy expect him to get the work in the passing game while Vereen returns to spot duty.

With the New England Patriots pressing the issue with the no-huddle offense in Week 3, it called on RB Danny Woodhead getting the majority of the snaps over RB Stevan Ridley at running back. Woodhead is considered a better option as a third down/passing back. Woodhead had a team-best 15 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, and he added a nine-yard reception. Ridley was held to 37 rushing yards on 13 carries, and he did not record any catches.

Huddle Up: Ridley didn't help his case for more playing time in the Patriots' no-huddle by dropping a pass late in the game. Woodhead will continue to see more playing time as long as the Patriots are using three-wide receiver sets; when Aaron Hernandez returns to the lineup, New England will likely return to their familiar two-tight end sets--a scheme where Ridley sees the bulk of the backfield action.

New England Patriots RB Danny Woodhead could lose some reps this season if RB Shane Vereen emerges as a consistent contributor on offense, reports the Boston Herald.

Huddle Up: Woodhead, Vereen, Ridley, Addai... Someone has to be left out of the musical chairs.
