2007 Outlook
After coming off career high marks in 2005, Tom Brady ended last season with the lowest yardage since becoming a full-year starter in 2002. His "fall" still turned in 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns against only 12 interceptions. His worst year and he still tied for 4th most passing scores on the season. Brady has never had less than those 3529 passing yards last year or worse than 23 scores in a 16 game season.
What this season ushers in is all new optimism that Brady could once again reach a career best mark. He comes off the worst cast of receivers since coming to New England and now has the best of his career. In addition to Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney, the Patriots added Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker in the off season. The Patriot scheme was always hard to defend since it never relied on any one wideout. Now it has added Moss and Stallworth who were #1 wideouts on their prior team and Wes Welker. It’s a dangerous looking crew now and since the team opted to not directly replace Corey Dillon, there’s a good chance that those short rushing scores of previous year’s will now turn into passing touchdowns. Ben Watson is another year more experienced. The stage is set for the best passing year ever for Brady and in the past he’s had as many as 4110 yards and 28 touchdowns. And for one of the even more rare times, the Patriots passing schedule is easier than it has been in several seasons.
Recent Priority News
09/03/08
WEEI 850AM Sports Radio in Boston reports sources have indicated that New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has a cracked bone in his foot. Brady is still expected to play Sunday, Sept. 7.
Huddle Up: You know we aren't getting a straight answer from Bill Belichick, so we're forced to rely on speculation and unconfirmed rumors such as this. It sounds as if Brady will attempt to play through this injury, and we'll get a better read on the situation actually seeing him in action this weekend. However, this isn't the kind of news Brady owners want to hear on the eve of the season.
09/03/08
The Boston Globe reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (foot, shoulder) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Sept. 3, and likely will play Sunday, Sept. 7.
Huddle Up: Brady may not be 100% with a foot injury but he is still better at 75% than most of the other quarterbacks in the league at 100%. Consider Brady a must-start this week against the beleaguered Kansas City defense as he could rack up some big numbers in Week 1. The Patriots and Brady certainly have something to prove after last seasons loss in the Super Bowl and could be in line for more of the same dominant play in 2008.

The Associated Press reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (foot) said he is ready for the team's season opener, but added that the decision remains up to the coaching staff. 'If it's up to me, there's no question,' Brady said. 'I've been getting progressively better over the past couple of weeks. I'm excited. I'm excited to start the year.' Brady added he felt he could have played in the preseason. 'I felt like I could play all of them and I practiced the entire preseason, pretty much. The decision was made that, OK, Tom, you're not going to play, and I was fine with it.' Brady stretched and did agility drills with teammates during the media-access portion of practice Monday, Sept. 1.
Huddle Up: The take many have had on this throughout the preseason is simple. We all know how the Patriots are in screwing around with the injury report. Plain and simple, this is only a way to be sure Brady doesn't get banged up in the preseason...he'll be ready and firing from the first play of this weeks game.

Foot Soreness and Inflammation - Patriots' QB Tom Brady has not played in a preseason game this year because of an undisclosed injury to his foot, however during a radio interview on Monday Brady said that his foot is feeling a lot better and that he expects to play in the team's Week 1 game against the Chiefs. According to reports Brady has been dealing with soreness and inflammation in his foot since the start of training camp and the team's medical staff has decided to limit his involvement in practice and keep him out of games so that his foot has every opportunity to heal. Brady is pleased with the progress of his foot and said that he will try and play in the team's final preseason game. He indicated that the medical staff might keep him out of that game as well as a precaution. As expected team officials have been very tight lipped about Brady's injury and his weekly status. But the Patriots believe that Brady will be healthy enough to start in Week 1 and while it would be nice to see him on the practice field with his teammates he has played hurt before so expect him to play even if he isn't 100%.

ESPN reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (foot) has a deep bone bruise on his right foot.
Huddle Up: Even though we now have a specific name for what's wrong with Brady, as opposed to the "undisclosed foot injury" that was used to describe the problem, the bottom line remains the same. He probably won't play the final preseason game, but he should be good to go Week 1.
08/25/08
ESPN.com reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady said Monday, Aug. 25, during a radio interview that he will be ready for the team's season opener. "If I don't play (Thursday) then I'll be ready for Kansas City," Brady told WEEI Radio. Brady said his foot is feeling good. "I'm feeling very good. I'm feeling very good... I was wishing I could play last week and it didn't happen. It will be the same thing this week. I'm hoping I'm out there and if I'm not, I'm not. I'm trying to get better as fast as I can, and in the ways I know how; it's been making improvements, there is no doubt about it," Brady said.
Huddle Up: Whew! After 42 consecutive weeks on the injury report with that bum shoulder—each fretful week ending with Brady on the field—we thought this might really be something to worry about. Okay, that's not true; we figured so long as the Pats weren't making a move for Chris Simms or some other backup plan that Brady would be good to go.
