2007 Outlook
Cutler finally got the nod in week 13 last year and his performance was genuinely impressive. He threw for two scores in each of his first four games and ended with nine passing scores in five games – with only five interceptions. In his brief stint last year, he only twice managed more than 200 passing yards but that touchdown to interception ratio from a rookie is almost unbelievable. Before expecting Cutler to generate 30+ touchdowns in 2007, take into account that his five game body work came in games against SEA, @SD, @ARZ, CIN and SF. That’s against defenses that ranked 17th, 14th, 30th, 31st and 27th against passing yards. Not the toughest of foes but just as pertinent – this was a rookie quarterback thrown in as the starter without a single pass thrown prior to starting.
When Cutler played, instead of honing in on Javon Walker, he connected mostly with fellow rookie tight end Tony Scheffler who had only six catches for 67 yards in the first 11 games. In just five starts with Cutler, he totaled 12 catches for 219 yards and four touchdowns. Javon Walker only scored twice with Cutler and averaged just 46 yards per game. Walker was turning in 78 yards per game with Jake Plummer. This is not to say that Cutler is not developing well, just that he still has learning to do after only five starts. He was surprising with a 71 yard score to Brandon Marshall and was inconsistent with his wideouts who never had more than 84 yards in any game with him. Look for Cutler to continue to improve, but realize his impressive nine scores in five games were against softer secondaries and he’s not a finished product yet. But he’s undeniably on the right track. An even bigger obstacle will be one of the toughest passing schedules of any NFL team this year as well.

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type I diabetes in a statement released by the quarterbacks business manager Marty Garafalo on Thursday.
"It's something that he's dealing with and something a lot of other people have," Garafalo said. "Even though it's a serious condition, it's a condition that can be managed. That's the way he's treating it right now. "Everything's fine, his condition is fine."
Huddle Up: Cutler has emerged as a solid NFL starter with tremendous upside for the future. Despite the diagnosis of diabetes don't expect anything but a stellar career out of the Broncos field general for many years to come. Fantasy owners should view Cutler as a No. 1 starter on a potentially high-octane offense in 2008.

Second-year quarterback Jay Cutler continues his maturation process in the NFL and had an impressive outing against the Kansas City Chiefs. Cutler threw for 244 yards but had 4 touchdowns after completing 20 of 27 passes in the 41-7 drubbing of the Chiefs. "Too little, too late, I don't know," Cutler said. "We'll see what happens. We'll see how it all plays out. We're not looking at the playoffs, we're not looking at what San Diego does."
Huddle Up: It may be too late for the Bronco playoff hopes this season but the future looks really bright in Denver. Fantasy owners looking toward the playoffs could expect some nice games from Cutler down the stretch as they will end their season with Houston, San Diego and Minnesota. Cutler will be a hot commodity for 2008 and could be ready for a breakout year in the NFL.

Cutler participated fully in Thursday's practice, making it
apparent that he'll start Sunday against Kansas City.
Huddle Up: Cutler's an average start against a Chief pass defense
that allows 216 yards passing per game. They've also
given up eight touchdowns.

An MRI of Cutler's injured left leg revealed no fracture.
Although the leg was "quite sore," according to HC Mike
Shanahan, there's at least a chance Cutler will play this
weekend against Kansas City.
Huddle Up: Shanahan said he would know more about Cutler's
prognosis for Week 10 on Wednesday. If he can play,
he's worth looking at as a starter against the Chiefs.
11/05/07
QB Jay Cutler was injured in the second quarter of the game with the Detroit Lions and did not return. The second year signal caller was replaced in the lineup by reserve QB Patrick Ramsey. "I got hit with a helmet on the outside of my leg," he said. "I'll get an MRI. I'm hoping it's not broken, but it could be a hairline. "Hopefully, it's just a bruise."
Huddle Up: The Broncos season continues to get worse with the injury to Cutler and the impending legal decision on RB Travis Henry. Fantasy owners with Cutler should monitor the news this week to see how serious the injury is and when he might be expected to return to action for the Broncos.
09/25/07
Despite suffering an ankle injury late in the loss to
Jacksonville, Cutler told The Denver Post that he has
no intention of missing this Sunday's game against the
Colts.
Huddle Up: Cutler will be playing his first game in his home state,
and in the same stadium where he won a state
championship in high school. Cutler's worth serious
consideration as a No. 1 QB against the Colts. With
Denver starting safety John Lynch iffy for the game, Indy
should be able to put up a lot of points, even against
the Broncos' excellent secondary. Cutler will probably
be called upon to produce a lot of points through the air.
