2007 Outlook

The 37-year old Green heads to his fifth NFL team after finally becoming a full-time starter from year to year in Kansas City. Green had been one of the most productive passers from 2003 to 2005 when he threw for over 4000 yards and averaged almost 23 touchdowns per season. But in 2006 with a new head coach in Herman Edwards, the change in offensive scheme took a toll on Green's production. In his eight games last year before his injury, he had only thrown for 1342 yards and seven touchdowns with a 74.1 QB rating.

Green did not suddenly become an ineffective quarterback in 2006 after three years of outstanding yardage. The scheme changed and brought him down with it. Green suffered a severe concussion and even on his return suffered a sprained ankle later. The Chiefs are embarking on a youth movement and a 37-year old quarterback doesn't fit that plan. The Chiefs and Fins finally came to agreement in June to send him to Miami.

Miami is already installing a new offense by ex-SD offensive coordinator Cam Cameron but instead of LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates, there's only David Martin and Ronnie Brown. And there'll be a learning curve. The addition of Green should be a big help to Chris Chambers but it could almost work against him since the Fins released Randy McMichael and did not get any #2 wideout to help draw attention away from Chambers who will be no less the focus of the secondary. If the rookie Ted Ginn Jr. can stretch the defense, then Chambers may improve more signicantly but an aging quarterback with a too recent severe concussion coupled with a new offense being installed makes for a tall order to expect more than average numbers from Green this year.

Recent Priority News

10/09/07
Green suffered the most serious type of concussion, a Grade 3, against the Texans on Sunday and is out indefinitely.
Huddle Up: This looks like more than a week-to-week proposition. It looks like a career-ender. Cleo Lemon is expected to take the reins on Sunday against the Browns.

10/08/07
Miami Dolphins quarterback Trent Green was injured Sunday and taken to a local hospital when he suffered another concussion due to a hit by Houston DT Travis Johnson. To make matters worse after the hit Johnson stood over the injured quarterback and taunted him. Green was released from the hospital and returned to the stadium after the game.
Huddle Up: It had been rumored prior to the game this week that Miami may start playing rookie QB John Beck since the Dolphins have struggled to get consistency at the quarterback position. Green is likely to miss at least 1 game due to this latest concussion so it would not be a surprise to see the rookie make his first start for the Dolphins in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.

08/20/07
In an un-surprising move the Dolphins announced that they will start the season with Trent Green as their starting quarterback.
Huddle Up: This was expected. Miami didn't bring the veteran quarterback in to play backup. This move doesn't really change much from a fantasy perspective as Green was never projected as a fantasy factor this year.

08/17/07
Miami quarterback Trent Green played significantly better against his former team the Chiefs than he did in his first preseason game as a Dolphin. In two series against Kansas City, Green went 4-for-7 for 41 yards. He drove the Dolphins to the Chiefs 3 but Miami was stopped on fourth and goal.
Huddle Up: Nothing really noteworthy here, except for the fact that anyone considering Green shouldn't be concerned that HC Cam Cameron had Green and Cleo Lemon as 1 and 1A on the depth chart as the starting quarterback.

08/16/07
Trent Green returns to Kansas City tonight to kickoff the second week of the NFL preseason as his new team the Miami Dolphins take on the Chiefs. "He will get a good ovation when he comes home, and he should because he has done a lot for the city of Kansas City," coach Herm Edwards said. "He's been a pro, he's in the community. As a player, it will be good to see him. I haven't seen him in a while."
Huddle Up: Green looks to improve on his performance against Jacksonville in Miami's first preseason game. Look for him to have more focus as he plays against his former team. Green looks to have a solid season for the Dolphins and will be a solid #2 quarterback at this point for fantasy teams.

08/12/07
Newly acquired QB Trent Green played in his first game as the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins in the 18-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaquars. Green, who played the entire first have completed 6 of 11 passes for 60 yards and 1 interception. The game was played in Miami with the Dolphin fans booing to performance of their new field general. "It's a crazy business," said Green. "People can respond to different things. I don't take a lot of that too much to heart being that it's the first preseason game. That's why you play preseason games."
Huddle Up: Fantasy owners should keep in mind that Green is learning a new system in Miami and this is the first preseason game of the year so he is still shaking off the rust. Still Green should only be considered as a #2 quarterback for fantasy teams at the present time.
