2007 Outlook
After three seasons in the NFL, Losman finally comes off a year as a starter and the results were not that bad – or that good. He threw for 3051 yards and 19 touchdowns against 14 interceptions and had a QB rating of 84.9. He threw touchdown passes in 13 of 16 games but only five times had more than one. With two 300+ yard games, he has some ability to post fantasy stats but over half his games totaled less than 200 passing yards. Overall – he was just average. The Bills used their 3.29 draft pick on Trent Edwards out of Stanford in the hopes that he may turn out to be more than merely average but that likely won’t cause any switch until the end of this year at the earliest. Most likely Losman carries the load in 2007 and then the two battle for the starting job in 2008, but the risk that Losman has of losing time later in the year makes him worth less than the average numbers he is capable of producing. The Bills have a very tough schedule this year which will not help Losman to hang onto his job.
Recent Priority News
08/25/08
The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills QB J.P. Losman (hand) started the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 24. Losman was 13-for-19 for 108 yards in the game before leaving with a hand injury. Losman appeared to injure the hand on a handoff and had it wrapped in ice at halftime.
Huddle Up: Losman was only in the game as the starter due to the injury of starting quarterback Trent Edwards during practice this past week when he collided with running back Marshawn Lynch. Edwards was out of the game with a thigh injury which is not considered serious enough to keep him out of action when the regular season starts. J.P. Losman will have plenty of time to recover from his hand injury as he will return to a reserve role behind Trent Edwards.
07/31/08
The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills backup QB J.P. Losman (thumb) returned to practice Wednesday, July 30.
Huddle Up: Losman enters camp as the No. 2 quarterback in Buffalo behind starter Trent Edwards who came on strong last season to grab the job. Buffalo has a nice complement of receivers and skill position players which could elevate Edwards production in fantasy leagues. Keep an eye on Losman and Edwards in camp because either one that leads the Bills offense will be worth drafting as a No. 2 quarterback or bye week fill in.
11/13/07
Bills HC Dick Jauron announced today that Losman will
get the starting nod against the Patriots over a healthy
Trent Edwards.
Huddle Up: No word whether Losman was actually happy about the
news, seeing that he'll probably be fed to the lions. This
is probably one of those matchups where no Buffalo
offensive player will be worth a fantasy start.
10/31/07
The Buffalo Bills have decided to start QB J.P. Losman when the Bills take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Losman, who started the season as the starter in Buffalo, was replaced by rookie QB Trent Edwards in the Bills lineup. Edwards sustained an injury to his right wrist last week and will need additional time to heal according to reports.
Huddle Up: Losman should make a nice bye week fill-in at quarterback if your fantasy team has been struggling at that position. The Bills take on the hapless Bengals who have been giving up tremendous yardage and points to the opposition this year. Losman is worth a start in all leagues for this week.
10/16/07
Head coach Dick Jauron will announce Wednesday his
starting quarterback for the Baltimore game. It is not
known who the front-runner is, J.P. Losman or Trent
Edwards.
Huddle Up: And it doesn't matter. Think Baltimore's defense was
big against the Rams? It should be just as huge
against Buffalo.
10/12/07
Losman prounounced himself ready to go when the
Bills return from their bye week to face Baltimore. The
question is whether he or Trent Edwards will be the
starter.
Huddle Up: Losman sprained his knee against the Patriots three
weeks ago, and has had to watch Edwards take all the
snaps in his absence. Whichever one starts really
doesn't matter from a Fantasy standpoint, however. The
only Buffalo Bill remotely worth having on a roster is
Marshawn Lynch, and he'll get his touches no matter
who's under center.
