2007 Outlook
Nothing much to talk about here. Manning is simply the most productive and consistent quarterback over the nine seasons that he's played. His 4397 yards last year were only third best in his career and yet ranked second in the NFL last year. His 31 passing scores ranked #1 in the NFL for 2006 and yet he’s done better in two other seasons including setting the all-time passing touchdown record with 49 in a season. Manning enjoys all his skill position players returning this season with the same coaching staff and scheme and an offensive line that featured two Pro Bowl players.
The worst you get with Manning (who has never missed a game in nine years) is great and the best would just set yet another NFL record. Manning is as "slam dunk" as it gets for NFL quarterbacks. The only question is when your league makes sense to take him as the first quarterback drafted.
Recent Priority News
01/14/08
Peyton Manning completed 33 of 48 passes for 402 yards and 3 touchdowns but the Colts fell short in their quest to repeat as Super Bowl Champions losing 28-24 to San Diego. Manning also had 2 interceptions on the day which both came as a result of batted balls. "What happened last year doesn't make it any easier this year," Manning said. "When you come back and commit yourself to the '07 season and you don't finish it like you want to, it hurts."
Huddle Up: Manning and the Colts will regroup in the offseason and will continue to be a force in 2008. Fantasy owners should target Manning in the second round of fantasy leagues next season as he will likely fall out of the first round in most drafts.
12/25/07
In potentially devastating news for Week 17 championship contenders, Colt HC Tony Dungy said Monday that not only Manning, but Joseph Addai and Reggie Wayne will not play the entire game this week against Tennessee. At most, he said, they will play the first half.
Huddle Up: This is why if you play in a fantasy league with a Week 17 Super Bowl, depth is paramount. You know situations like these are going to occur, and hopefully you have planned for them. As blasphemous as it may sound, you need to seriously consider benching all of your Colt studs this week.
12/18/07
Manning is expected to play the entire game against
Houston, even though the Colts have wrapped up the
No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs and can't improve their
postseason standing.
Huddle Up: Huge news for Manning owners, who can expect big
numbers from the QB against the Texans.
11/12/07
Peyton Manning once again found his way into the record books but this time it was for all the wrong reasons. Manning set a Colts franchise record for most interceptions in a game with 6 which led to the 23-21 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Despite the poor performance the Colts had a shot at the win until kicker Adam Vinatieri missed a 29-yard field goal with 1:31 left in the contest. Manning completed 34 of 56 passes for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Huddle Up: Regardless of the poor performance Manning is a must start every week and an elite quarterback in all fantasy leagues. Start him in Week 11 against a poor Kansas City defense.
10/29/07
Peyton Manning has set many records in his brief Indianapolis Colts career and Sunday against the Carolina Panthers he set another one. Manning threw 2 touchdown passes to break the Colts franchise record for touchdowns thrown by Johnny Unitas at 287. The record breaking touchdown pass came on a 59-yard bomb to receiver Reggie Wayne with 4:47 left to play in the third quarter of the contest. "I'm a little uncomfortable talking about the same records that he had but certainly it is an honor," Manning said.
Huddle Up: Manning proves again why he is an elite quarterback in the NFL and for fantasy teams this season. The Colts quarterback continues to stay consistent week in and week out so expect more of the same for the rest of the year. Indianapolis battles New England in Week 9 so expect an offensive explosion from the Colts and Patriots with potentially huge playoff implications for a game this early in the season.
09/07/07
The Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning showed Thursday night why they were World Champions last season. In front of a festive crowd on NFL Kickoff night the Colts blasted the New Orleans Saints 41-10 at the RCA Dome. Manning was on top of his game as the All-Pro quarterback completed 18 of 30 passes for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns. "A lot of young guys played good tonight. It's only one game and there's a long way to go, but we played really well tonight," said Manning.
Huddle Up: Manning proves again why he is the No. 1 quarterback in the NFL and the undisputed leader of the World Champion Colts.
