2007 Outlook
After sitting on his hands for two years, Rivers finally took the reins last season and turned in an impressive 3388 yards with 22 touchdowns against only nine interceptions. This was made even more impressive since it happened while LaDainian Tomlinson was setting all-time NFL records for rushing touchdowns. The Chargers not only had the highest scoring offense in the NFL for 2006, they were 65 points ahead of the #2 team. While any team owning the record holder for rushing scores will have an easier time throwing the ball, Rivers made good on his debut with a nice ratio of passes to touchdowns and one of the lowest interception rates in the league last year.
Rivers should improve at least incrementally this year as well unless Tomlinson goes completely nuts again with the rushing scores and yards. Norv Turner replaces Marty Schottenheimer and while that has never been a boon for a team’s defense, Turner knows offenses as well as anyone and promoted running backs coach Clarence Selmon to offensive coordinator to help keep the continuity of the league’s premier offense from last year. Keenan McCardell is gone but not much was lost since Vincent Jackson is stepping up and the team is already excited about their first round pick Craig Davis. Eric Parker remains and of course, Antonio Gates can be relied on to easily take the #1 tight end in the league. The biggest problem for Rivers will be a very tough schedule that matches against not only the AFC West with Denver and Oakland, but also with the AFC East and NFC Central with Chicago.

Chargers.com reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (knee) felt good following action in the team's first preseason game. 'I feel good,' Rivers said. 'There was no additional soreness that I hadn't had in the past, so that was a good sign.' Rivers may not play much if at all in the team's second preseason game. Head coach Norv Turner will wait until later in the week before determining Rivers' role in the game.
Huddle Up: There seems to be very little concern for Philip Rivers knee injury that limited him for much of the end of last season. Fantasy owners looking to find a quality No. 2 quarterback with upside should look no further than Rivers who is coming into his own as the leader of the San Diego passing attack. Due to his past knee injury he can be consistently drafted in the latter rounds and could be starting for alot of fantasy teams by the middle of the season. He is a nice sleeper that has the potential to lead you to the fantasy playoffs.

The Associated Press reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (knee) said he is fully recovered from the torn anterior cruciate ligament that required surgery. Rivers said, 'I've been going full-go now for over a month. There's nothing I can't do. There are times throughout the day I can't tell which knee I hurt.'
Huddle Up: This is good news, as this team should make some big offensive steps if the primary parties can stay healthy. Rivers very well could have his best year yet with the talent that is surrounding him, and being healthy to start camp is a great place to begin. Watch how the team utilizes him in the preseason to get an idea of how high to put him on your draft list.

QB Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers will have surgery on his right knee to repair his torn ACL. Rivers reportedly had a surgery during the week prior to the AFC Championship game to allow him to play against the undefeated New England Patriots. "It wasn't real extensive, but I mean, really that was the only way I would have had a chance to play by doing that on Monday," Rivers said. "I thought maybe I could come back in the Colts game but it was catching. That's what we did on Monday to give me the chance to play on Sunday."
Huddle Up: The timeline for Rivers recovery is estimated at six months which should put him back sometime during training camps or early preseason. Fantasy owners should monitor Rivers rehab and move him up on draft lists as he is starting to evolve into a solid fantasy quarterback.
01/15/08
San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers has a sprained MCL in his right knee and is questionable for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.
Huddle Up: Rivers will likely be a game-time decision but if doesn't practice by Friday its unlikely he will see any action in the game. Backup QB Billy Volek would get the starting nod in the place of Rivers if he is unable to play.
01/14/08
San Diego lost starting QB Philip Rivers Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts after he sustained an injury to his right knee. Rivers completed 14 of 19 passes for 264 yards and 3 touchdowns before leaving the contest with the injury. "Nobody really gave us a shot," Rivers said. "We were seeing preview shows of you know, 'Can't wait for Indy-New England.' We just had us in this locker room, kind of like we just had us when it was 1-3. Nobody would say we'd be playing in the AFC championship in New England when we were 1-3. But we believed it and we kept playing."
Huddle Up: Rivers will undergo an MRI on his injured knee Monday to determine his availability for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the undefeated New England Patriots.
01/07/08
Philip Rivers has had his share of struggles this season but Sunday against the Tennessee Titans Rivers played arguably one of his best games of the year. Rivers completed 19 of 30 passes for 292 yards and 1 toucdown which came on a 25-yard pass to Vincent Jackson.
Huddle Up: Rivers has shown good games and bad ones this season as he continues to be a risky fantasy starter. Look for the San Diego quarterback to continue to improve but he should be considered no better than a No. 2 quarterback for fantasy teams to start the 2008 season. Temper your expectations until he starts to consistently post fantasy worthy stats.
