2007 Outlook
Green came over to the Texans in the offseason and signed a four-year deal worth a reported $23 million. That’s a lot of money for a 30-year old back who hasn’t played a full 16 game season since 2003. The Texans ranked around 20th in rushing yards per game (105) and per carry (3.9) last year and Green should offer an upgrade – even if it may not last for the entire season. He has run for more than 1000 yards in every season since 2000 except for 2005 (due to injury of course).
The offense under Kubiak and OC Mike Sherman enters its second season which should already create a better offensive line and Green is a definite upgrade to the motley crew there in 2005. He’s a mild surprise to be the starter given his age and injury history but he’s a nice fit that can also figure into the passing game as a receiver. The Texans should be better with him, but with a new quarterback and only one wideout of any real known talent, it’s a tall order to expect too much from Green this year. In league’s offering reception points, he could make a suitable #3 flex RB but as a starter you better be plenty strong in other positions this year. He’s a slightly bigger injury risk than the average tailback and hits the magic 30 year mark last February.

Texans RB Ahman Green was placed on the injured reserve list by the Houston Texans ending his 2007 season. Green has been out of action for most of the season after only playing in four games and suffering a sprained knee on Sept. 23rd.
Huddle Up: Fantasy owners should expect RB Ron Dayne to continue to be the primary ball carrier in Houston for the remainder of the NFL season. He has filled in nicely in the Texans offense and with the injury to starting QB Matt Schaub expect more carry opportunities going forward for Dayne. Houston will face Tampa Bay, Denver and Indianapolis over the next three games so don't expect huge numbers out of the Houston ground game.
11/23/07
Ahman Green has been unable to practice this week with his always balky knee and is not likely to play this week against the Browns.
Huddle Up: Ron Dayne will get the start against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. So long as the Texans can keep pace on the scoreboard with the high scoring Browns, Dayne should produce at least moderate rushing numbers this week but in Cleveland there is always the chance that the Texans fall behind and are forced to abandon the run.
11/17/07
The Houston Texans will be without running back Ahman Green during their Week 11 tilt against the New Orleans Saints. Green, who has been battling knee problems for much of the season is still experiencing swelling and will be unable to take the field. "He has not responded over the last couple of weeks to the rest we've given him," Kubiak said. "He came out and did a little (Thursday). His knee swelled this morning. So he will be down. And we will work from there."
Huddle Up: Veteran Ron Dayne will get the start for the Texans on Sunday and should see the bulk of the carries with Adimchinobi Echemandu getting some touches also as a change of pace back. With the return of Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub to the lineup look for Houston to stretch the field with their air attack and then use Dayne to control the ball at the end of the game.
11/07/07
The Texans are sending Ahman Green to Dr. James Andrews to review his knee condition which has not been improving and has limited him much of the year. MRI's have not shown structural damage but Green's knee continues to be sore and bothersome.
Huddle Up: Maybe all Dr. Andrews needs to look at is Green's birth certificate that says he is a 30-year old running back who has been injured often in his NFL career. The Texans are intending to remain with the committee backfield though Ron Dayne is getting the bulk of work lately.
11/03/07
The Texans listed Ahman Green as probable and expect to play him this week after he has been able to participate in some practices on Thursday and Friday. His playing time would be limited and the Texans are looking to use Green along with Ron Dayne and Adimchinobe Echemandu who is also considered probable to play with a hamstring strain from last week.
Huddle Up: Stay away from the Texans backfield if you can since all three players will likely get carries and water down the numbers for all. Green is probable to play but check the inactives before game time just to be sure that he has not suffered any setbacks.
10/31/07
HC Gary Kubiak told the Houston Chronicle he "is concerned" about the health of Ahman Green. Green was was deactivated for Sunday's loss in San Diego. Kubiak added that he is unsure of Green's status for this week.
Huddle Up: Last week's deactivation was the third game Green has missed due to his bum knee in the past five weeks. Not a good sign for the 30-year-old back. The disappointing Dayne has backed him up to this point but the Texans got a surprising performance out of Adimchinobi Echemandu on Sunday. Unfortunately he came out of the game with a tweaked hamstring. Bottom line is the Texans have problems in the backfield and fantasy owners are best to avoid the situation for now.
