2007 Outlook
What’s left to say about a player that rushed for 28 touchdowns, caught three scores and even threw for two more. All this while being the #1 rusher in the NFL with 1815 yards and catching 56 passes for 508 yards. This was not the “guy of the year" to draft, he had the best season of all time in fantasy terms. And he only turns 28 this summer so he has several seasons of high production remaining. He’s an obvious first pick in every fantasy draft and anyone who skips him must be in collusion with the team drafting second. Even prior to his record season, Tomlinson had been rushing for 17 or 18 scores the previous two years with at least 1800 total yards.
Recent Priority News
10/14/08
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) said his injured toe is feeling the best it has since he suffered the injury in Week 1. 'It was the best my toe had felt since I hurt it,' Tomlinson said. 'I've said all along it's getting better. The great thing about it is it never was getting worse.'
Huddle Up: That sounds great, but anybody who's been paying attention knows L.T. isn't L.T. this season. Hopefully you've learned by now to lower your expectations, and hopefully your other running back is a stud.
10/13/08
The Associated Press reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson had 20 carries for 74 yards during the team's Week 6 game. He also caught three passes for 44 receiving yards. He became the 17th player to rush for more than 11,000 career yards.
Huddle Up: Sunday night LT showed flashes of the LT we've come to know and love (and take first overall in our fantasy drafts), but the 3.7 yards per carry indicates that the toe injury may still be lingering—and the 11,000-yard stat reminds us that he's no spring chicken.
10/13/08
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson limped to the sidelines late in the team's Week 6 game as a result of his toe injury. "There was pain throughout the whole game for my toe," Tomlinson said. "It's just something that I'm probably going to deal with until I get some rest. It's not getting worse; that's the good thing. Throughout the game, when I get hit, the toe is going to respond and be painful. But it's not painful enough to have me sit out the game."
Huddle Up: Tomlinson's 3.7 yards per carry were decidedly un-LT-like, but the fact that he can hold up through 20-plus carries bodes well for his status the rest of the way.
10/11/08
The North County Times, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 10. He is listed as probable for the team's Week 6 game.
Huddle Up: It is evident from watching Tomlinson perform last week against the Dolphins that he is clearly not anywhere near 100%. With the Chargers passing game inconsistent, the team will rely even more heavily on the running game where Tomlinson and backup Darren Sproles will likely split carries. It is hard to imagine but fantasy owners should consider Tomlinson a No. 2 running back for Week 6 due to his limited production with a toe injury.
10/10/08
The North County Times reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 9, but he is expected to play Week 6.
Huddle Up: Unfortunately this has become a regular bit for LT, but at least it looks like he'll be in the lineup.
10/09/08
The North County Times reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) missed the team's practice Wednesday, Oct. 8, but is expected to play Week 6.
Huddle Up: This is getting to be a sad, repeating song for LT, who has looked like a mere shell of his former self this season. A full-go practice before the weekend would make Tomlinson owners feel a little better.
