2007 Outlook
Clark ended 2006 with 367 yards on 30 receptions but he also had a sprained ACL that forced him to miss four games. He had gained 303 yards through the first nine games but then turned in two one catch efforts before injuring his knee. After playing for the Colts for four years, Clark has yet to play all 16 games in a season. His normal role – if healthy – has been around 450 yards per year and four or five scores but last year he was passed by Ben Utecht in both yards and receptions. While Manning prefers to throw to Clark near the endzone over Utecht (no scores last year), the reality is that Indy usually employs two tight end formations and Clark has never risen in effectiveness since he became the starter in 2004. He makes a decent back-up tight end but has little upside with so many other weapons on the team.
Recent Priority News
12/29/06
Indianapolis tight end Dallas Clark should see some
playing time against the Dolphins. Clark has missed
the last four games with a partial tear of the anterior
cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Huddle Up: As tempting as it might be to run Clark, do so only if
your tight end options are limited, because he probably
get too much action.
12/20/06
Indianapolis TE Dallas Clark has a sprained ACL, and not a torn ACL as had been speculated, according to head coach Tony Dungy. Clark has missed the Colts' past three games and is nearing a return to action, but that might not happen until Week 17 or, more likely, in the playoffs.
Huddle Up: Good news that Clark's knee injury is only a sprain, but nevertheless it will be enough to render him a non-factor in fantasy play for the last two weeks of the season.
11/28/06
Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark (knee) incurred a knee injury during last Sunday night's game against the Eagles and could be out for the remainder of the season.
Huddle Up: The Colts do have depth at tight end with Ben Utecht and Bryan Fletcher, but Clark was the best of this group and his absence over the middle will have a negative effect on the Colts passing game.
09/15/05
Dallas Clark has returned to practice after being held out last Sunday against the Ravens due to the lingering effects of a concussion he suffered. Though he is listed as questionable for the game against the Jaguars, he practiced on Wednesday and said he will definitely play on Sunday. When asked by a reporter about his status, he replied "I'm back."
Huddle Up: Good news for Clark owners who had to scramble last Sunday to find a replacement. Clark was a first round pick by the Colts in 2003 and has been groomed to take over the primary tight end spot left vacant by Marcus Pollard this spring. Clark and Pollard combined for nine touchdowns and 732 yards last year and Ben Utecht caught a touchdown last week as his replacement.
09/11/05
Clark has made the trip to Baltimore but the team is still waiting on the complete results of the neuroloigical tests before they clear him for play on Sunday. As it stands now those results and Clark's playing status may not be determined or released to the public until game time Sunday.UPDATE: Clark was made inactive
Huddle Up: Since the Colts have a night kickoff (8:30pm ET), this information will likely not be available soon enough for most fantasy owners. Clark owners should strongly consider plugging their backup TE into their starting lineups this week.
09/09/05
Indianapolis tight end Dallas Clark (concussion) has a previously unreported concussion that occurred in the team's preseason game against the Broncos. Clark will undergo a neuro test on Friday, September 9th, and if he passes he will play in the team's season opener on September 11th.
Huddle Up: Congratulations Dallas the results are negative! Now the bad news...we need you to run in routes in front of Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs and the rest of the Ravens defense on Sunday night. A good week to sit Clark.
