2007 Outlook
Nothing like watching your team spend their first round draft pick on your position to make a guy feel bad. After four seasons with the Bears, the 30 year-old Clark comes off a career best season with 45 catches for 626 yards and six scores but he amassed those numbers in a very inconsistent way. After a hot start to the season where he had 391 yards after seven games, he only managed to gain 235 yards in the final nine match-ups and 125 yards came in one game. Were it not for that aberration against the Buccaneers when he had seven catches for 125 yards, Clark would have only totaled 110 yards in the second half of the season. Clark redeemed himself a little with a team-leading 64 yards in the Super Bowl, but obviously not enough to stop the Bears from drafting Greg Olsen.
Clark will continue to start this season but Olsen will obviously cut into his action more as the season progresses. While Olsen may take time as a rookie to get more passes, the reality is that Clarkâs fantasy value has taken a hit and even worse could be declining as the season progresses.
Recent Priority News
12/18/06
TE Desmond Clark exploded Sunday as he caught 7 passes for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Chicago Bears. Clark caught touchdown passes of 12 yards and 24 yards in the first half of Chicago's 34-31 overtime win over Tampa Bay.
Huddle Up: Clark has been a solid fantasy TE for most of the season and that should be no different in Week 16 as the Bears play the Lions. Start him if you have him.
10/30/06
Chicago TE Desmond Clark was impressive Sunday in the Bears' 41-10 victory over the hapless 49ers. Clark, who caught 6 passes for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns did exactly what was needed for the Bears offense. The Chicago TE hauled in touchdown passes of 1 and 27 yards in the second quarter. He appears to be Rex Grossman's favorite target in the red zone.
Huddle Up: Clark looked good Sunday and appears to be back from his early season injury troubles. Consider him a must-start against Miami in Week 9. It would not be adviseable to ever bench any Bears for the near future as they have consistently put up great fantasy numbers this year.
09/29/06
Chicago tight end Desmond Clark is extremely iffy with
a sprained left foot, even though he's only listed as
"questionable" on the Bears' injury report.
Huddle Up: If Clark can't play, John Gilmore will start. Clark has
been a huge part of the Chicago offense, with 12
receptions, a TD, and an average of 16 yards a catch.
12/17/04
Clark has returned to practice the last two games and is now expected to play against the visiting Texans this week. He missed the Jacksonville game last week due to sore ribs and a bruised shoulder.
12/12/04
Clark's injuries have landed him on the inactive list today. Backup Dustin Lyman starts in his place.
12/10/04
Clark did not practice again on Thursday and now appears unlikely to start this week against the Jaguars. He has both shoulder and rib injuries from the win over the Vikings last week. He'll likely be replaced by Dustin Lyman.
