2007 Outlook
The Seahawks finally parted ways with the troublesome Jerramy Stevens but in his place they only acquired Marcus Pollard. They signed him to a one year contract which was responsible since Pollard is 35 years old and wouldn’t be around long enough for a multi-year contract. Pollard disappeared in Detroit last year thanks to the Martz offense which almost never uses them as receivers. In 2005 and in his first season with the Lions, Pollard did score three times and turn in 47 catches for 516 yards. But he’s 35 years old now and it’s already hard enough to tell when a tight end loses a step.
The Seahawks have traditionally used the tight end spot for around 600 yards and five scores a year but in 2006 that fell to just 332 yards for the position. The aging Pollard doesn’t have the look of a player to make a big improvement in those numbers and Will Heller will be around for a few catches as well. Consider Pollard only as a back-up tight end.
Recent Priority News
09/19/05
Pollard took a helmet-to-helmet hit from safety Mike Brown in the fourth quarter Sunday and left the game with a concussion. There is no word on the severity of the head injury or how long Pollard may be out.
Huddle Up: Even a slight concussion can cause a player to miss a game, so expect some downtime for the Lions' starting tight end.
03/07/05
Pollard has signed with the Detroit Lions on a three-year contract worth $6 million that includes a $2.3 million signing bonus.
Huddle Up: This leaves Dallas Clark as a very attractive fantasy tight end in Indianapolis while Pollard regains the chance to be the primary receiving tight end.
03/02/05
Pollard has been released by the Colts in order to save the team $2.65 million against their salary cap. If he does not sign with another team, the Colts would still like him to return.
12/30/04
Pollard is not expected to play against the Broncos this week and is listed as questionable due to the ankle sprain that forced him to miss last week. He still has not practiced and the Colts are hoping to get him back in time for the first round of playoff games.
12/26/04
The Colts will be without their starting tight end today as they have declared Pollard inactive. Dallas Clark will start at tight end for Indianapolis.
12/24/04
Pollard is questionable to play against the Chargers this week and has not practiced due to a sprained ankle. He is expected to be a gametime decision.
