2007 Outlook

After three seasons with Eli Manning, Shockey has been pretty consistent each year with around 700 yards and seven scores – good enough to remain one of the top tight ends in the league even if he has never started all 16 games in a season. For the last three years, he has only missed one contest each season though and usually ends up playing injured for several games of the year. Shockey’s 66 catches in 2006 was 5th best for NFL tight ends and his seven scores ranked 3rd best but his yards per catch fell to a career low 9.4 last year. That largely reflected him playing with a foot injury for much of the year and ending the season with a sprained ankle.

Shockey has never risen to being considered a lock certain great tight end each year but his productive consistency warrants him being one of the first tight ends drafted every year – just make sure to have someone else for his bye week and the other week he misses with an injury.

Recent Priority News

The Star-Ledger reports former NFL DL Michael Strahan publicly confirmed that New York Giants TE Jeremy Shockey wants to be traded. 'He doesn't want to be here, he doesn't want to play here,' Strahan said. 'That's obvious with everything that's going on. ... So I think the best thing for them and for Shockey is, if they have the opportunity, let him go.'
Huddle Up: Shockey is not as indespensible to the Giants as one might think in light of the solid performance of backup TE Kevin Boss down the stretch last season. It is apparent that Shockey is becoming more of a distraction for the World Champions and could be dealt to another team if the right situation presents itself. If Shockey remains in New York this season expect his numbers to be down with backup TE Kevin Boss likely getting more playing time than usual as he is worked into the New York offense. It is likely you will see Shockey gone from New York in the near future unless something dramatically changes.

According to the New York Daily News, New York Giants TE Jeremy Shockey may not attend the upcoming Giants offseason mandatory minicamp this Wednesday. Shockey said, "The statement I would like to make about the Giants and the speculation in the offseason is that whatever happens between the upper management, lower management, the owners, any management, is going to (stay) between ourselves. Unlike the Giants, I am going to be quiet. They have released multiple things about myself, and if you look back into the media (reports), there is always a source. Well, I would like to know who the source is." Shockey added, "I have never expressed the feelings of the things that you guys (the media) made up. You guys will be able to talk to me (more) if I make it to minicamp."
Huddle Up: The situation between Shockey and the Giants appears to be getting worse and could escalate further if he decides to not report to the mandatory mini-camp. Fantasy owners looking at drafting Shockey should consider that backup TE Kevin Boss could get the start in New York especially due to his stellar play down the stretch last season with Shockey on the sidelines with an injury. Shockey could find himself behind Boss on the depth chart if he causes problems and misses training camp activities. Keep following this situation and many others leading up to the start of the NFL season at "The Huddle".

The New York Giants lost not only the game against the Washington Redskins Sunday night but they may have lost their starting TE Jeremy Shockey for the rest of the season as well. Shockey sustained a fractured fibula during the third quarter of the game and was replaced by rookie TE Kevin Boss.
Huddle Up: This is a huge blow for the New York Giants and alot of fantasy football owners heading into their league championship week. Shockey's replacement rookie Kevin Boss, hauled in 2 passes for 31 yards which included a 19-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter for the Giants lone touchdown in the game. The Giants play in Buffalo during Week 16 so expect cold weather and a focus on the running attack and the short passing game.

12/29/06
Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey missed a second consecutive day of practice due to an injured ankle on Thursday. Head coach Tom Coughlin said he may not make a decision on whether or not to activate Shockey until 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday night.
UPDATE: Shockey has been downgraded to out and will not play Saturday. Backup Visanthe Shiancoe will start for the Giants.
Huddle Up: The tight end plays a key role in the Giants' passing attack and Shiancoe has filled in well for Shockey in the past. If you are in need of a deep sleeper at tight end, Shiancoe could fit that need.

10/11/06
Giants TE Jeremy Shockey, who left Sunday's game against Washington with a foot injury, underwent a third day of tests on his right foot and ankle on Tuesday and the results showed no broken bones. Despite the results, his foot and ankle remain sore and he's available to practice on a day-to-day basis.
Huddle Up: Shockey has been a huge disappointment for fantasy owners this season with 12 catches, 147 yards and one TD through four games. He seems to always play hurt, and that won't change when the Giants play at Atlanta on Sunday. The Falcons are the only remaining NFL team that hasn't allowed a passing TD this season, and given that fact and Shockey's health, his fantasy owners would be wise to seek better options.

10/10/06
New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey (foot) left last week's game against the redskins in the fourth quarter as a result of a sore right foot and did not return. Though his status at this time for week six is unknown, Shockey declared himself fine after week five's game and should end up playing this weekend in Atlanta.
Huddle Up: It will be status quo for the Giants oft-injured, outspoken star. He'll play through the injury and limp around the field all game, providing a decent but not great output.
