2007 Outlook
Winslow finally comes off a full season with great results. He caught 89 passes to tie a team record and to rank #1 among all NFL tight ends – by a margin of 13 receptions. His 875 yards ranked third best for tight ends in 2006 though his three scores were obviously low. It is Cleveland, after all. Winslow never scored after week eight but he had nine games with more than 50 yards including three of 90 yards or more.
Winslow is recovering from offseason microfracture surgery on his knee and has not participated in minicamps with the hopes he can return in time for training camp. His January surgery typically has around four months of recovery time and not all athletes have returned to the same level of performance afterwards. Winslow said he was basically playing on one knee last year and evidently his right knee cartilage was almost gone by the season’s end.
The Browns have brought in OC Rob Chudzinski who was a TE coach in Cleveland before serving as the TE coach in San Diego for two seasons. Apparently the addition of Chudzinski should be a great benefit for Winslow not only from his NFL background with tight ends, but for the fact that he was also the OC and TE coach at Miami when Winslow was there. This could be a big season for Winslow but it all depends on how his knee responds to rehabilitation and of course, that he is able to remain healthy if that happens. Definite risk here with definite upside.

The Medina County Gazette reports Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 21, and worked with the first-team offense. He is listed as questionable for the team's Week 12 game but it looks like he will be able to play.
Huddle Up: Winslow should be able to continue to build rapport with QB Brady Quinn, provided Quinn himself will be able to play through a broken finger on his throwing hand.

The Associated Press reports the MRI done on Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow's (shoulder) showed no structural damage. Winslow has a shoulder sprain, which is not likely to keep him out of an extended time. Head coach Romeo Crennel said Winslow's status for Week 12 would depend on getting strength and range of motion in his shoulder.
Huddle Up: Even if the injury doesn't sideline Winslow there is no question it should slow him down and limit his production on the field. Still yet, consider Winslow worth starting as a No. 1 TE option as even at half-speed he is better than most of the other tight ends in the league.
11/18/08
The Medina County Gazette reports Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his shoulder.
Huddle Up: Winslow looked to be in some serious pain during Monday night's game. He's established a pretty good rapport with Brady Quinn and seems on the verge of putting up good numbers with regularity.

ESPN.com reports Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage said Sunday, Oct. 26, that he still didn't know why TE Kellen Winslow was first hospitalized and that he never forced Winslow to keep quiet regarding the nature of his illness. "Not one time, never, ever, ever, ever has there been a situation where I tried to determine whether a player was going to try to keep something quiet as a private matter or if he was going to go public with his situation," Savage said. "That's not our decision. It's a player's body, it's his decision. They're the ones who are on the field, they're the ones who put themselves at risk and it's their choice."
Huddle Up: Not that anyone has had much success keeping Winslow quiet. There appears to be a building animosity between Winslow and the organization, and the fact that Cleveland has won two games without K2 suggests they won't hesitate to part ways with him in the offseason if the chasm becomes unmanageable.
10/22/08
Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow has filed an appeal of his one-game suspension, according to a league source.
Huddle Up: These appeals rarely work, but good luck son.
10/21/08
ESPN News reports the Cleveland Browns have suspended TE Kellen Winslow one game for questioning the team's medical policies.
Huddle Up: Steve Heiden will likely see most of the action in place of Winslow in Week 8. The Browns play Jacksonville this week.
