2007 Outlook

During his four seasons in San Francisco, Battle has improved every year and ended with 59 catches for 686 yards and three scores in 2006. That may prove to be his upper limit though with the addition of Darrell Jackson and Ashley Lelie and the drafting of Jason Hill. Throw in second year player Brandon Williams and Battle would do well enough to hold on to that level of production. He has never had more than three scores in a season and last year totals were when Vernon Davis was mostly hurt and only Antonio Bryant was there to compete for passes. Best bet is to leave Battle alone this summer unless training camp has everyone else get injured. He has no upside this year and could experience a decline from already mediocre numbers.

Recent Priority News

08/13/08
The Sacramento Bee reports San Francisco 49ers WR Arnaz Battle (hamstring) has suffered a strained hamstring.
Huddle Up: Just another setback to a San Francisco offense that is struggling to rebuild its passing game in 2008. With uncertainty abounding and rumors of J.T. O'Sullivan leading Alex Smith and Shaun Hill to be the starting quarterback for the 49ers, it appears that the offense will remain in a state of flux early on this season. The 49ers have starting receivers Bryant Johnson and Arnaz Battle now nursing hamstring injuries which all translates into a lot more eight man fronts against stud running back Frank Gore this season. Fantasy owners should consider Gore the only worthy fantasy player at this point and downgrade him slightly to a low first-round or high second-round draft choice.

09/11/07
Is there a chance Arnaz Battle will be Alex Smith's go-to guy in San Francisco? He had five receptions for 60 yards and added a rushing TD.
Huddle Up: With the lousy performance of Darrell Jackson, Battle may have earned Smith's confidence. Battle may be worth looking at as a free agent pickup.

11/21/06
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Arnaz Battle (hand) had two small screws inserted into his fractured left hand and he will wear a cast all this week and have it removed right before game time.
Huddle Up: Battle, in the midst of a nice fantasy year, has shown a history of toughness with regard to playing through injuries and can be relied upon to perform in week twelve.

12/27/05
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Niners have signed Battle to a five-year contract extension.
Huddle Up: The Niners must have a lot of confidence in the young receiver. Despite dealing with a knee injury much of the season, Battle performed well when on the field and has plenty of upside.

12/23/05
The 49ers starting split end is expected to play this week after missing the last three games with a stress fracture in his right knee. Arnaz is not 100% healthy, but the 49ers need all the wideouts they can muster this week against the soft Rams secondary.
Huddle Up: Doesn't really matter which wideout they use lately with Alex Smith struggling through his rookie learning curve. The Rams are aware that their cornerbacks are their weakest link and have opted to play aggressively with blitzes to prevent opposing quarterbacks from having enough time to realize just how bad the secondary is.

12/09/05
Starting WR Arnaz Battle's knee injury appears to be worse than the team first thought. He missed practice again on Thursday and it's unlikely he'll play Sunday against the Seahawks. Backup Johnnie Morton is expected to continue to fill in for Battle, but he is iffy to play due to an Achilles injury suffered this week in practice.
