2007 Outlook

After three seasons in the NFL, Berrian broke out in 2006 such as it is in Chicago. Berrian gained 775 yards on 51 catches with six touchdowns but those numbers were affected by a rib injury that Berrian suffered in week seven. Berrian only missed two games and bounced back with a 104 yard effort against the Patriots in week 10. Along with the rest of the passing game in Chicago last year, Berrian started the season out red hot with scores in four of the first five games but then only managed two more touchdowns in the remaining nine games that he played.

Berrian was successful early in the year on long catches when he had a 40+ yard reception in each of those early scoring games but unless he caught a deep pass, he was only marginal as a receiver last year. In the six games that he scored a touchdown, he averaged 25.3 yards per catch. When he did not score, his average was only 10.9 yards per catch for around 40 yards per game. Feast or famine with Berrian and after a hot start, it was mostly famine in fantasy terms. Berrian will be one more year experienced which is important since he was only a starter for last season but he’s not yet progressed beyond being a long-ball specialist.

Recent Priority News

10/07/08
TheMinnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian caught six passes for 110 yards with a touchdown during the team's Week 5 game.
Huddle Up: Maybe Berrian and Gus Frerotte can get something going. There's no reason to think Berrian couldn't meet or exceed those numbers this week against Detroit.

10/07/08
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian had the first 100-yard receiving performance by a Vikings player in the past 35 regular-season games. He caught six passes for 110 yards in the team's Week 5 game.
Huddle Up: This says one big thing. Minnesota's receivers have been pathetic for quite a while. Other than that one has to take note of Berrian who had at least one very nice catch Monday night. If Ferotte can keep throwing the ball like he has it will at least give the receivers a bit more value, and with the running game up and down, they'll need to do something to keep winning games, though this week should be easy as they face the hapless Lions. Look for Berrian to make it back to back 100 yard games.

10/03/08
Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 3. He is listed as questionable for the team's Week 5 game.
Huddle Up: Despite the questionable tag, Berrian will likely be in line to start since Minnesota plays on Monday night which gives the receiver an extra day of rest before gametime. If your fantasy team has other equal options, you may want to bench Berrian just in case he has a setback prior to the start of the game.

09/19/08
Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian (foot) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 19. He is listed as probable for Week 3.
Huddle Up: With Sidney Rice questionable and a new starting quarterback who can actually throw in Gus Frerotte, Berrian looks like a great sleeper play this week against Carolina.

09/18/08
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian (toe) is practicing Thursday, Sept. 18.
Huddle Up: With the installation of a "real" quarterback in Gus Frerotte, Berrian's numbers should rise significantly in the coming weeks. If he's available, grab him in free agency and stash him away for a week when your studs are either on bye or have a lousy matchup.

09/02/08
Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian (toe) is expected to play Week 1. He did not play in the last three preseason games because of a toe injury.
Huddle Up: The fact that many guys don't play much in the preseason due to weird injuries is one thing when it is a star type player. In this case it means he'll be working to find timing with his quarterback. If you're having to start Berrian don't expect much from him at least in week one.
