2007 Outlook

Bruce turns 35 in November but he still turned in a solid showing last year when he caught 74 passes for 1098 yards and three scores. His 14.8 yards per catch led the Rams and he was a nice value pick in drafts last summer since he was coming off a 525 yard injury-marred season. His yards per catch says he hasn’t lost a step but any wideout at 35 years of age is a dicey proposition to expect the same level of production. The Rams brought in Drew Bennett during the offseason and there’s no doubt he will figure in at the expense of Bruce. The only question is when during the season will he assume the starting flanker role.

Recent Priority News

09/07/08
The Associated Press reports San Francisco 49ers WR Isaac Bruce was held without a catch Week 1. It was the seventh time in his career that he has been held without a catch in his career.
Huddle Up: We're not sure how many owners were actually expecting much from Bruce, but there may have been some who thought the Mike Martz magic would come back to help him out for another year. Bottom line, it doesn't look like that will be happening. Look elsewhere for the fountain of youth, because it isn't in San Fran this season.

03/01/08
The San Francisco 49ers signed 14-year veteran WR Isaac Bruce to a 2-year $6 million dollar deal to shore up the 49ers receiving corp. Bruce was released by the St. Louis Rams this past week after 14-years with the team.
Huddle Up: The 49ers are in dire need for receivers that can take the pressure off the running game and Frank Gore. The addition of Bruce is a step in the right direction but the aging star will likely be utilized as a No. 2 receiver at best and could help to develop younger receivers this year.

11/14/07
Isaac Bruce re-aggravated his old hamstring strain last week and will miss one to two weeks. In his place, Drew Bennett will be filling in as the starting flanker.
Huddle Up: With a road match-up against the 49ers, Bennett makes an attractive start this week. Bruce racked up 145 yards on eight receptions in the previous meeting with the 49ers in week two this season and Bulger has been hot the last two games.

11/13/07
Bruce may be forced to sit out Sunday's game agianst San Francisco after he re-aggravated the same left hamstring that cost him action earlier this season.
Huddle Up: HC Scott Linehan said he'd re-evaluate Bruce after Wednesday's practice to see if the receiver can go against the 49ers.

10/05/07
Bruce has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Arizona with a bad hamstring.
Huddle Up: Drew Bennett will take Bruce's place as the No. 2 receiver. But considering the horfific state of the Ram offensive line, plus the fact that Gus Frerotte is getting the start for Marc Bulger, stay away from any St. Louis offensive player not named Torry Holt. And even Holt is a risk this week.

03/10/06
The Rams have re-signed WR Isaac Bruce to a new, three-year deal worth a total of $15 million. Bruce will be paid $6 million for the 2006 season. His previous contract, which he was released from, would have paid him $8.1 million in 2006.
