2007 Outlook
True to form, Lee Evans had his break-out during his third season when 2006 provided 82 catches for 1292 yards and eight touchdowns. Evans went from catching the occasional long pass for a score to a consistent receiver with around 70 yards in most games and as high as one magic 265 yard effort he had in Houston. He only had two other games exceed 100 yards but he also ended the year on a high note with touchdowns in each of the last four games. Once the Bills elected for stability at the quarterback spot with J.P. Losman, Evans became one of the better wideouts in the league. His 1290 yards ranked 5th best among all NFL receivers last year and only nine wideouts had more touchdowns.
On the negative side, the Bills have a brutal schedule this year but then again, that will mean that Evans will be called upon no less than in 2006. He still lacks a credible #2 to lessen his coverage, but he excelled last year with the same situation.
Recent Priority News
10/02/08
NFL.com reports the Buffalo Bills have signed WR Lee Evans to a four-year, $37.25 million extension that includes $18.25 worth of guarantees. Evans will make $27 million over the first three years of the deal. He is now under contract through the 2012 season.
Huddle Up: Great news for the Bills to solidfy the contract of the teams most important receiver for the next four years. Evans is a solid No. 1 wideout and has developed nice rapport with QB Trent Edwards. He is capable of putting up solid numbers which could only improve as Edwards continues to improve each game in the Buffalo offense. Consider Evans a nice No. 2 receiver with upside.
09/04/08
The Buffalo News reports Buffalo Bills WR Lee Evans has more catches (233), receiving yards (3,727) and touchdowns (29) over his first four years than any other receiver in franchise history.
Huddle Up: These are nice things to note, but owners are hoping the quarterback situation will find the same quality level to make Evans a more consistent threat. If that ever happens, he could move into the top five for a long stretch of seasons. Oh yes, and by the way, it doesn't look like that's going to happen this year at the very least.
01/18/08
Buffalo Bills WR Lee Evans is expected to have surgery on his shoulder at some point during the offseason. The Bills starting wideout has had shoulder problems for some while but may have re-injured it during the later part of the 2007 season.
Huddle Up: Fantasy owners should expect Evans to be fully recovered from the shoulder surgery prior to the start of the 2008 season barring any complications. He could be a strong sleeper candidate to have a tremendous year in the Bills offense.
10/29/07
The Bills seem to have gotten their offense on track in the last few weeks and also WR Lee Evans. Evans, the No. 1 reciever on the Bills offense, reeled in 5 catches for 138 yards and 1 touchdown in the 13-3 Buffalo victory over the New York Jets. Evans touchdown reception came in the fourth quarter on a 85-yard bomb from backup quarterback J.P. Losman. "It seemed like it hung in the air forever," the Buffalo Bills wide receiver said. "I just tried to go up and make a play on it. It was a matter of who wanted to make the play the most."
Huddle Up: Evans is starting to turn it on like he has in previous seasons as a solid second half performer. Fantasy owners that need a good receiver should try and pickup Evans off your waiver wire or in trade from another team if you can. He is a consistent second half scorer and has a favorable schedule with Cincinnati and Miami the next two weeks.
08/29/07
Buffalo receiver Lee Evans sat out practice yesterday with an injured calf.
Huddle Up: The injury will likely keep the talented receiver sidelined for the Bills last preseason game. However, don't look for it to linger into the regular season as Evans appears to be in line to start the Bills first game against the Denver Broncos on September 9th. Fantasy owners should look for nice stats from Evans this season as he is poised for a breakout campaign.
08/25/07
The Buffalo Bills finally came to life with a few offensive plays in the Bills 28-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans in their preseason game. The highlight of the evening was the 64-yard touchdown pass from J.P. Losman to Lee Evans in the second quarter. Evans, caught 5 passes for 100 yards and 1 touchdown on the evening.
Huddle Up: Evans is having a nice preseason and is looking like he could have a breakout season in 2007. The main obstacle that could stand in his way is the up and down play of J.P. Losman. Fantasy owners draft Evans as your No. 2 receiver as he has big time potential.
