2007 Outlook

The third season for Fitzgerald did not provide the breakout year (which really was 2005 anyway) but much of that was due because of a balky hamstring that forced him to miss three games and play less than 100% in a couple others last year. Fitzgerald still ended with 946 yards on 69 catches and scored six times. He had only two games over 100 yards though he was pretty solid in turning in 70 or more in most games. This was a big step backwards from his 1409 yards and 10 scores in 2005.

Fitzgerald had one monster game in 2006 – 172 yards against the Vikings in week 12 but never again had more than 93 for the rest of the year. But he did score four times in those final six games as a precursor to what he can do with a more experienced Matt Leinart under center. So long as he can remain healthy – a problem shared with Anquan Boldin – Fitzgerald will overtake Boldin as the clear top wideout in Arizona this year. In the new scheme ushered in by HC Ken Whisenhunt, the two primary wideouts should continue to enjoy fairly heavy use and Fitzgerald’s success in the endzone will be exploited. Also, Whisenhunt has always been noted for creative, "trick" plays that often use wideouts in various rushing or even passing capacities. Fitzgerald is the best athlete for a Cardinals wideout and that too will lead to more use in any gimmick plays dreamed up by the coaching staff.

Recent Priority News

03/12/08
The Arizona Cardinals have signed WR Larry Fitzgerald to a new 4-year deal worth $40 million which includes $33 million to be paid out during the first three years of the agreement. "This is what I wanted to happen," Fitzgerald said. "There was a great deal of dialogue through this whole process and everybody got what they wanted."
Huddle Up: The new deal locks up for Arizona their top playmaking receiver for the next four years. Fantasy owners should consider Fitzgerald a Top 10 wideout with the potential to move up in the top 5 if the Cardinals can get consistent play from their quarterback position in 2008.

12/31/07
WR Larry Fitzgerald led all recievers in Week 17 by catching 11 passes for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Arizona Cardinals 48-19 demolishing of the St. Louis Rams. Fitzgerald hauled in touchdown passes of 21 and 6 yards respectively during the contest. "This is the building blocks for what we've got to do," Fitzgerald said. "I think this is great momentum."
Huddle Up: Despite missing some time during the season to injuries, Fitzgerald has come on strong to help many fantasy teams win their league title. Expect Fitzgerald to be a top 10 wideout in 2008 for the up and coming Arizona Cardinals.

11/30/07
Fitzgerald, suffering from a sore groin, is going to be a game-time decision this week, the team's Web site reports.
Huddle Up: If Fitzgerald can't go, Bryan Johnson will take his place. Both Johnson and Aquan Boldin (even if he's less than 100 percent) will be excellent plays against the Browns' weak pass D.

10/07/07
WR Larry Fitzgerald had a big day for the Cardinals while hauling in 9 passes for 136 yards and 1 touchdown in the victory over the Rams.
Huddle Up: Fitzgerald remains a solid No. 1 fantasy wideout and should continue to post nice numbers with QB Kurt Warner at the helm for the near future.

11/27/06
WR Larry Fitzgerald returned to his old dominating form Sunday but it was not enough as the Cardinals lost to the Vikings 31-26. Fitzgerald hauled in 11 passes for 172 yards but failed to reach then endzone in this dominant performance. "This was a huge game for me, my team, Coach Green, so we wanted to win this game and we fought until the end but we shot ourselves in the foot a few times," Fitzgerald said.
Huddle Up: Fitzgerald returns to the elite wideout status with this performance. He appears to be over his injury and as dominant as ever with new quarterback Matt Leinart at the controls. Fantasy owners should use him each week as a solid No. 1 wide reciever.

11/16/06
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) practiced on Thursday, November 16th, and is probable for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Huddle Up: Fitzgerald appears to have worked through the brief tweaking of his tender hamstring in week ten against the Cowboys.
