2007 Outlook

With Deion Branch moving over to take the place of Darrell Jackson, D.J. Hackett is moving up to the starting flanker spot this year. He started five games in 2006 and his 45 catches for 610 yards were enough to impress the coaches and merit this move up in his fourth season. Hackett makes for a very interesting draft pick this year since Branch will be attracting the most attention. Once the #1 NFL wideouts are taken in your draft, consider Hackett who is in a great spot for a surprising season. He’s been with the same system and quarterback for three years and has improved in both his years of playing time. At 6’2", he’s a full 4" taller than Branch and Jerramy Stevens is also gone leaving only aging Marcus Pollard at tight end. Hackett will be the tallest target downfield – and in the end zone.

Recent Priority News

03/18/08
The Carolina Panthers have inked WR D.J. Hackett to a 2-year deal worth $3.5 million. The 26-year old Hackett had played the past four seasons in Seattle where he battled through a variety of injuries, however he did have 6 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Wildcard game against the Washington Redskins.
Huddle Up: Hackett should give the Panthers the much needed complement to star receiver Steve Smith in the Carolina offense. If Hackett can stay healthy in 2008 he could post huge numbers for Carolina as they strive to return to one of the NFC's elite teams. Fantasy owners should keep Hackett on the radar during the offseason as he could be a prime sleeper candidate for 2008.

01/11/08
D.J. Hackett has re-aggravated his high ankle sprain and will be a game time decision according to HC Mike Holmgren. Hackett already missed ten games this season because of the sprain.
Huddle Up: Could be a tough blow for the Seahawks who will likely struggle in the rushing game and must have all hands on deck for receivers to stand a chance in Green Bay.

01/07/08
Seattle WR D.J. Hackett hauled in 6 passes for 101 yards and 1 touchdown as the Seahawks advanced to the divisional playoffs against the Green Bay Packers with a 35-14 throttling of the Washington Redskins. Hackett, who has been out of action due to a high ankle sprain, looked sharp and was instrumental in the success of the Seattle offense.
Huddle Up: Hackett was projected by many to have a breakout season in 2007 but his high ankle sprain injury has kept him sidelined for a good portion of the season. Fantasy owners should consider Hackett a strong No. 2 receiver for 2008 as he has tremendous upside and potential to be an elite receiver if he can stay healthy.

12/22/07
WR D.J. Hackett returned to the practice field on Friday but will be unlikely to start against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16. Hackett has missed most of the season with a high ankle sprain that was re-aggravated a couple of weeks ago.
Huddle Up: Fantasy owners should look for a heavy dose of Bobby Engram and Deion Branch in the Seattle offensive game plan Sunday. If you were counting on using Hackett this week in your fantasy playoff game then you should temper your expectations and target him for a Week 17 return to action instead. He is not worth taking a chance on at this time of the year.

12/12/07
According to the Seattle Times, WR D.J. Hackett has been listed as out for the Seahawks Week 15 matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Hackett has been sidelined for the last two weeks with a re-aggravation of a high ankle sprain that cost the Seattle receiver several weeks at the beginning of the season.
Huddle Up: Hackett has the potential to be a star in this league but his injuries have held him back for most of the season. Fantasy owners could expect to see Hackett post some decent numbers in Week 16 and Week 17 against Baltimore and Atlanta if he returns to the practice field as anticipated next week. If he has been dropped in your league stash him on your roster for the end of the season. He has the potential to be a solid No. 2 WR if he returns to action.

11/27/07
Hackett will miss at least two weeks after reinjuring his right ankle in the St. Louis game. It's the same ankle he hurt earlier this season that cost him six games.
Huddle Up: Either Nate Burleson or Bobby Engram will take Hackett's place, while Ben Obomanu or Courtney Taylor will take over the No. 4 WR spot.
