2007 Outlook
Johnson led the NFL in 2006 when he had 103 catches – the only one over 100. He ended with a career high 1147 yards while scoring five times but he stands to improve if only Schaub can meet expectations. Johnson had a good overall season last year but like the rest of the Texans passing game, he did almost all his damage in early in the season and was much less effective as the season progressed. Johnson opened the year with four 100 yard games in the first six weeks and scored four times by midseason.
Johnson could be a great value in your league since the offense will improve with Schaub at the helm and so far there are just no other receivers that seem likely to cut into his action much. That could end up with him constantly double covered, but Johnson is much more talented than the team around him has allowed. The change to Schaub and at least marginally better rushing from Ahman Green should only help Johnson. Expect Johnson to improve this year and make a stronger case for being considered one of the elite wideouts in the NFL.
Recent Priority News
10/12/08
The Associated Press reports Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson caught 10 passes for a franchise-record 178 yards as well as one touchdown in the team's Week 6 game.
Huddle Up: Johnson also had a big fourth down catch late in the game that kept the Texans final game-winning drive going late in the fourth quarter. Andre Johnson is the top receiving target for Matt Schaub and remains a solid No. 1 receiver capable of lighting up the scoreboard against any opponent. He has a tendency to have up and down games but overall he is the prototypical wideout in the NFL.
10/06/08
The Associated Press reports Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson had nine receptions for 131 yards with a touchdown Week 5.
Huddle Up: Johnson had far and away the best day any wideout has had on the Colts, and his stats were personal bests against Indy as well. Whether it's Sage Rosenfels or Matt Schaub at the helm, there's little question the Texans' passing game needs to run through Johnson to be effective.
08/19/08
The HoustonTexans.com reports Houston WR Andre Johnson (groin) was going through a full practice Monday, Aug. 18, until rain forced the team to move inside. He could take the field for the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 22.
Huddle Up: Sounds like the groin problem with Johnson is doing better but the team is still being cautious not to reaggrivate the injury to their star wideout. Despite his recent history of injuries, Johnson once again will be the primary target in the Houston offense and could post some huge numbers as long as he can remain on the field. There is no question that Johnson is quarterback Matt Schaub's favorite target and the first one he looks for when the Texans enter the redzone. Draft Johnson with confidence in the second or third round of fantasy drafts as a No. 1 wideout for your team regardless of the scoring format.

Strained Groin - Texans' WR Andre Johnson, who has been out for a week because of a strained groin, did not play in the team's preseason game against the Broncos this past weekend. However Johnson told reporters that his groin is feeling better and that he would have played if it were a regular season game. Johnson pulled his groin while running a deep route during practice a week ago. He said that he felt it tighten and he immediately stopped running. He limped off the field and he was escorted to the training room where he was examined. Head coach Gary Kubiak called the injury a "minor tweak" however the team plans on playing this safely and keep him sidelined as long as necessary. Johnson should be healthy and running at full speed when the regular season begins.
08/03/08
HoustonTexans.com reports Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson (groin, knee) appeared to favor his left groin as he limped off the field Saturday, Aug. 2, after he pulled up running a deep route. Johnson said he tweaked his groin but it is not major.
Huddle Up: This shouldn't cause much in-season trouble but should be monitored by owners looking to AJ to be their number one receiver. With all the parity at all the positions this season, usual 'studs' like AJ are at a premium, so anything that happens that could affect these guys gives owners cause for concern. At this point don't sweat it, but be sure to keep an eye open and protect your draft investment.
05/20/08
Houston star wideout Andre Johnson has underwent arthroscopic surgery in what has been deemed a "clean up" procedure. "I feel good right now," Johnson said. "It has a little bit of swelling, but nothing major. If you looked at my knee, you wouldn't really even be able to tell anything is wrong with it."
Huddle Up: Johnson is expected to be out of offseason activities with the Texans until July at the earliest. Fantasy owners should look at Johnson as a bona fide No. 1 fantasy receiver heading into the 2008 NFL season. If the Houston wideout does not have a setback with the injured knee he appears poised for a huge year as the top target in the Texans passing game.
