2007 Outlook
The Titans wide receiver crew is the most inexperienced in the NFL and is hardly the way to ensure that Vince Young continues to develop. Jones stands as the default best wideout on the basis of his 27 catches for 384 yards and four scores last year. With Bennett and Wade gone, the rest of the current Titan wideouts only accounted for 253 yards and no scores last year. Jones scored three of his touchdowns in the final six games and even gained 101 yards in Buffalo but never had more than 53 yards in any other game. He even had four weeks without a catch.
The Titans will have some wide receiver emerge this year to replace Bennett and Wade being gone and Jones is in the lead position entering training camp. But that won’t guarantee that Jones will take a big step up. The Titans will be using their training camp to sort out of the depth chart and Jones deserves a watch, but the Titans may not have a wide receiver with value of a fantasy starter this year.
Recent Priority News
06/14/08
Wide receiver Brandon Jones of the Tennessee Titans was charged by law enforcement for carry a loaded .32 caliber gun in his baggage at Nasheville International Airport.
“Today I was cited for carrying a handgun when going through security at Nashville International Airport. Obviously I did not know I was carrying my gun. This morning I grabbed a bag and placed my clothing in the bag, then rushed to the airport. I had forgotten that the last time I had used the bag was when I went target shooting."said Jones. “I fully cooperated with authorities who confiscated the handgun at the security gate. I have a license for the handgun and a permit for carrying one. Realizing that I was not intentionally carrying the handgun nor did I have any intention of harming anyone, I was allowed to board my airplane and continue my travels. I want to apologize for any embarrassment this might cause my family, the Titans organization or my teammates.”
Huddle Up: The Titans receiver was cited and released and also allowed to board his flight. Jones is competing for a starting job in the Titans offense this season against Justin McCarreins and Justin Gage among others. Jones should be considered no better than a No. 3 receiver for fantasy leagues at this point unless he clearly becomes the main target in Tennessee.
10/15/07
Tennessee Titans WR Brandon Jones will miss the next 2-3 weeks recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. Jones did not play against Tampa Bay in Week 6 as he was inactive.
Huddle Up: Brandon Jones is the Titans top receiver to this point in the season but will most likely have a hard time regaining his starters spot with the emergence of WR Roydell Williams. Fantasy owners should not be counting on any Titans receivers at this point especially with QB Vince Young sustaining a quadriceps injury Sunday.
10/14/06
Tennessee Titans WR Brandon Jones is looking to become the go to guy for the Titans. Jones, a second year player returning from a season ending knee injury caught 3 passes for 40 yards in the Titans last game against the Colts. Jones seems to also be building a good repor with QB Vince Young. "I have to prove myself with Vince in that I can be that guy. With the game on the line I want him to trust me.''
Huddle Up: Jones will continue to get opportunities in the Tennessee offense especially with David Givens out with an injury. Brandon Jones should be considered a bye week or injury replacement with upside at this point. If he continues to look good and stay healthy he could be a second half sleeper for an improving offense.
10/06/06
Tennessee WR Brandon Jones will get his chance in
the starting lineup against Indianapolis on Sunday.
Incumbent David Givens is out for several weeks after
surgery on his left thumb.
Huddle Up: Jones had ACL surgery last December, but seems to
be at full speed in practice. He has four catches for 36
yards.
If you have some room on your roster, Jones might be
worth a look as a stow-away free agent who may help
later in the season as Vince Young gets more
comfortable in the pocket.
08/23/06
Tennessee WR Brandon Jones' recovery from reconstructive knee surgery appears to have progessed far enough for the second-year wideout to play on Saturday night against the Falcons. Jones accumulated 29 catches, 295 yards and two touchdowns in eight games during his rookie year before blowing out his ACL against San Francisco in Week 12.
Huddle Up: The Titans aren't short on promising young wideouts, but with David Givens, Tyrone Calico and Courtney Roby all dealing with hamstring issues, Jones should be right in the mix. He started eight games in his rookie season before getting hurt, so he's proven that he has the skills to be one of QB Billy Volek's primary options. It's too early to consider Jones a viable fantasy sleeper in all but the deepest of leagues, but his stock could rise in a hurry if he makes a strong return and his fellow wideouts continue to be plagued by injuries.
11/30/05
Titans rookie WR Brandon Jones is expected to need season-ending surgery on his right knee, reports Jim Wyatt of Tennessean.com. Additional tests on Jones' knee revealed more damage than had been previously thought. Jones, who originally suffered an MCL sprain at Arizona on Oct. 23, worsened the situation when he went down early in the Titans' win over the 49ers on Sunday.
Huddle Up: Jones had little fantasy value prior to this injury, and now even that is gone. Meanwhile, Tennessee welcomes back Tyrone Calico, who missed the past three games with a strained calf. None of this really matters, though, because the Titans' offense is in for a long day on Sunday against the Colts in Indianapolis. Even No. 1 wideout Drew Bennett is a risky play in this one.
