2007 Outlook
Jurevicius ended his first season with the Browns with only 495 yards and three touchdowns. While that was a big step down from his 694 yards and ten touchdowns in 2005 when he was with Seattle for a year. Then again, 2006 matched about every other season that Jurevicius has ever had. After nine years in the league, he has been on four teams and never had more than four touchdowns in a season. He has never started more than 12 games either thanks largely to either injuries or not being good enough to be a starter. He’s 6’5" but has never been much used as an endzone target and those opportunities do not come often with Cleveland anyway. Jurevicius has marginal fantasy value and there’s no reason to expect much upside here.
Recent Priority News
10/29/08
ESPNews reports Cleveland Browns WR Joe Jurevicius (knee) will miss the remainder of the season.
Huddle Up: This is just a formality. The club had hoped Jurevicius might make it off the PUP list mid-year, but Donte Stallworth had taken his job anyway.
10/20/08
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Browns WR Joe Jurevicius (knee) is expected to land on the Injured Reserve in the next couple of weeks.
Huddle Up: With the offseason signing of Donte Stallworth the Browns were ready to move on from Jurevicius anyway, so his loss for the season shouldn't greatly impact their plans.
07/17/08
ESPNews reports Cleveland Browns WR Joe Jurevicius (knee) will likely open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list and would not be able to return until Week 6.
Huddle Up: If Jurevicius is out for an extended period of time, this will open up more opportunities for newly acquired WR Donte Stallworth, as well as possibly Josh Cribbs and Travis Wilson.
07/14/08
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Cleveland Browns WR Joe Jurevicius (knee) intends to honor his commitment to return for the 2008 season despite recently undergoing a fourth procedure on his right knee since January, according to a source. Jurevicius will open training camp on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list. It is possible he could begin the season on the PUP list, which would cause him to miss at least the first six weeks of the season.
Huddle Up: This is another good reason why Stallworth will likely post some nice numbers this year. Since Jurevicius is likely out for at least the first half of the season this leaves Donte Stallworth, Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards as the primary targets in Cleveland.
07/01/08
The National Post reports Cleveland Browns WR Joe Jurevicius (knee) still has swelling in his right knee making his status uncertain for the start of training camp. Jurevicius had his knee scoped Monday, June 30, at the Cleveland Clinic and the team has not made his availability clear.
Huddle Up: It's way early to start projecting doom and gloom for Jurevicius, who has been a solid receiver throughout his career. But if this problem lingers through camp, the value of new addition Donte Stallworth will increase in fantasy drafts.
07/01/08
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that WR Joe Jurevicius has underwent a fourth knee surgery which leaves his playing status for training camp up in the air. The Browns news release indicated that Jurevicius had experienced "ongoing swelling and discomfort in his knee" and "had a further clean out to help him in his recovery and control his symptoms."
Huddle Up: The surgery was performed to give Jurevicius a fighting chance of recovering in time to contribute to the Browns offense in 2008. It is expected that Cleveland will utilize Braylon Edwards and Donte Stallworth as their top two wideouts led by quarterback Derek Anderson. Fantasy owners should also watch receivers Josh Cribbs and Travis Wilson in training camp as both could push for playing time as a third receiver for the Browns until Jurevicius returns to action.
