2007 Outlook
Two years with the Bears and the 34 year-old Muhammad still hasn't totaled the numbers he produced in his one magic season with the Panthers in 2004. Muhammad turned in his best season as a Bear last year but only had 60 catches for 863 yards and five touchdowns. He had two 100 yard games in the first three weeks but then only passed the century mark once more last year. He also only scored once over the final seven weeks. Like Grossman, Muhammad looked very strong early last year and then just faded.
Muhammad is yet another year older and the offense will have a new tight end in Greg Olsen. That won't affect the wideouts too much at least early in the year but Muhammad has not shown enough consistency in Chicago to warrant being much more than a #3 wideout on a fantasy team if that. Seven of his games came in with 45 yards or less last year. Muhammad makes for a stronger fantasy back-up since he almost always gets something every week and about one in every three games ends up decent. He's lost a step and joined a team that will be developing other receivers.
Recent Priority News
12/18/05
Muhsin Muhammad had to leave the game twice Sunday night with what appeared to be a leg injury. He didn't return after heading to the sidelines in the fourth quarter. The extent of the injury isn't known and he'll be re-evaluated on Monday.
09/21/05
Twenty-one of rookie QB Kyle Orton's 49 NFL passes have been directed to WR Muhsin Muhammad, including his first and only TD pass to date, according to K.C. Johnson and John Mullin of the Chicago Tribune. "I want to be a comfort zone for him," Muhammad said.
Huddle Up: It's hard to believe that a Bears wideout can be a week-in, week-out threat in fantasy play, but Muhammad has defied the odds before. He's a leader, he's tough, and he's smart, three qualities that were largely overlooked during the preseason when he was being labeled by many as a 2005 bust.
02/26/05
One day after being released, Muhammad has signed a multi-year contract with the Chicago Bears for undisclosed terms. Muhammad leaves the Panthers as the career leader for receptions and tied with Wesley Walls for touchdowns.
Huddle Up: This could well provide the biggest fantasy drop in the history of the NFL. After ending 2004 as the highest scoring NFL wideout, Muhammad heads to one of the worst passing offenses in the league last year.
02/25/05
The Panthers cut ties to the biggest fantasy surprise of 2004 when they released Muhammad to avoid a $10 million bonus he would have been due next week if he was still on the roster.
08/06/04
Muhammad suffered a compoung fracture to his right ring finger and is expected to miss several practices.
10/28/03
Muhammad was held out of last week's game due to a concussion but is expected to play this week against the Texans.
