2007 Outlook
Owens' first season in Dallas resulted in 1180 yards and 13 touchdowns - about the same that he had in his final healthy year in Philadelphia. He played much of the year with an injured right ring finger that was blamed for his unusually high number of dropped passes. The finger had two surgeries in the offseason and an entourage everywhere it went. Owens has been faithfully rehabbing the finger with a hand specialist and has already shown up for minicamps. The finger should not be an issue this year and he played with the condition much of last year anyway.
What is most notable about last year was the role that Tony Romo had in Owens' success. Prior to week seven, Bledsoe had only thrown three scores to Owens and two of those came in his final game as a starter when Romo first took the field. In the 12 games that Romo played, Owens scored in all but three of them and had three 100 yard games. He had none with Bledsoe. While Bledsoe had trouble connecting with Owens, Romo knew right where the money was. Terry Glenn's numbers did not really suffer much with Owens, so the defense cannot solely concentrate on Terrell though he obviously will always be a concern. The new coaching staff may change some aspects, but feeding the ball to Owens will not be among the differences from 2006.
Recent Priority News
10/27/08
ESPN.com reports there are concerns within the Dallas Cowboys organization whether QB Brad Johnson can incorporate WR Terrell Owens and the team's other receivers in the downfield passing game. According to a high-ranking team source, the team will likely start Johnson in Week 9. However, the source said Johnson's obvious limitations within the offense might prompt head coach Wade Phillips and his staff to consider other options, including No. 3 QB Brooks Bollinger.
Huddle Up: Look for Johnson to have a short leash this Sunday against the Giants. If he looks as inept as he did against Tampa Bay, expect the Cowboys to take their chances with Bollinger. The Giants have a much more explosive offense than do the Buccaneers, and the Cowboys will have to produce much more than the 172 yards of total offense they did in Week 8.
09/30/08
The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said he is not concerned about WR Terrell Owens' comments about his role within the offense. "We have quite a few good players," Phillips said. "We didn't get the ball to Marion Barber. We didn't get the ball enough to Terrell last game. It's a good problem to have, but we need to be able to rectify it by controlling the ball more. Making more first downs, having longer drives... those kinds of things to help everybody get the ball."
Huddle Up: Phillips doesn't need to worry, as the same source reported that T.O. had a "serious talk" with Tony Romo regarding concerns he's had about routes and throws since the start of the season so all these issues should be worked out... just as long as Romo throws the ball to T.O. on every play.
09/29/08
The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens caught seven passes for 71 yards and one touchdown in the team's Week 4 game. He also rushed for 11 yards on two carries in the game.
Huddle Up: After the Packers were successful in taking T.O. out of last week's game the Cowboys added a couple wrinkles (the running plays) to get the ball into his hands. Tony Romo also had more success getting him the ball in the passing game as well, though from T.O.'s postgame comments it wasn't quite enough to his likeness.
09/04/08
Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens has 12 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns in two career games against the Cleveland Browns. Eight of the 12 catches went for first downs.
Huddle Up: Not that you wouldn't have started him, but here is just a bit more of an incentive. Look for a good production day from TO this weekend, to kickstart a stellar season.
08/05/08
The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens (undisclosed) returned to practice during the evening session Monday, Aug. 4, after receiving a break the previous two sessions. 'He's a little, not sore, just precautionary,' head coach Wade Phillips said.
Huddle Up: It is unclear as to why Owens has been given some extra time off the last few days but it does not appear to be anything of major concern at the present time. Owens remains a solid No. 1 elite receiver for a Dallas team that looks to be one of the best entering the regular season. Draft Owens with confidence as your No. 1 fantasy wideout as he looks to in position to post some huge numbers as the Cowboys make another run at the Super Bowl this year.
06/17/08
Tim McMahon, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens (personal) will not make an appearance at the team's mandatory minicamp this week, according to a team spokesman. Owens took his physical Monday, June 16, and was excused for the remainder of the week. He is dealing with personal matters unrelated to his drug-testing issue.
Huddle Up: This does not appear to be anything to be concerned about at this stage since the Cowboys have not indicated there is any kind of problem with Owens missing the mandatory mini-camp to take care of his personal matters. Owens should once again be one of the top receivers in the game in 2008 and should thrive in the potent Dallas passing game.
