2007 Outlook

For the last three seasons, Parker has been given a starting role and the payback for that has been oddly consistent every year – though not in a good way. He’s remained between 659 and 725 yards every season and never had more than four scores – last year he never had any touchdowns. With Keenan McCardell gone, Parker is a starter yet again by default but that may only hold for this year since the Chargers used their 1.30 pick on acquiring Craig Davis from LSU. Expect Parker to chug along with mediocre numbers and to be replaced eventually if not by the end of this year.

08-05-07 Update: Parker underwent surgery on the big toe of his right foot and is expected to miss ten weeks while he recuperates. He is not expected back until week six of the regular season and likely will have lost his starting job for good by then.

Recent Priority News

Chargers.com reports the San Diego Chargers released WR Eric Parker Wednesday, July 23.
Huddle Up: This has been rumored to happen for several days now and comes because the team has chosen to go a different direction and utilize other receivers this season. San Diego will have Chris Chambers as its No. 1 wideout with a supporting cast of Legedu Naanee, Buster Davis, Malcolm Floyd and Kassim Osgood as the others looking for playing time in the volatile Charger offense. Of course TE Antonio Gates remains another quality receiving threat on the team for 2008.

ESPNews reports the San Diego Chargers are expected to release WR Eric Parker Friday, July 25.
Huddle Up: This isn't that surprising considering that Parker missed the entire 2007 season with a toe injury. His release will open opportunities for Malcolm Floyd, Gary Banks, Craig Davis, Kassim Osgood and Mark Jones to nabe the No. 3 receiver slot behind Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson.

06/22/08
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the San Diego Chargers have fielded calls from several teams regarding the services of WR Eric Parker, according to sources. Parker is expected to be either traded or released by the start of training camp. The Cleveland Browns are among the teams that have shown interest in Parker. The Chargers are believed to be asking for a draft pick somewhere in the final three rounds.
Huddle Up: Parker is not as valuable to the Chargers as he once was and that is mainly due to the arrival of veteran WR Chris Chambers last season from the Miami Dolphins. If the Chargers can find a team interested in Parker they will likely move him for future draft picks to solidify other positions of need. In addition to Chambers the team also has Vincent Jackson, Craig Davis, Malcolm Floyd and Kassim Osgood to compete for playing time in San Diego's receiving corp. Fantasy owners should take note to where Parker ends up as he could be a decent No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy receiver somewhere other than San Diego.

08/03/07
Eric Parker underwent surgery on the big toe of his right foot and is expected to miss ten weeks while he recuperates. His projected date of return is October 12th during week six of the regular season.
Huddle Up: Parker was already on shaky ground as a starter and the drafting of Craig Davis was made to eventually replace Parker. That can now happen as early as well one and so far Davis has been impressive. He'll still battle with Vincent Jackson, Malcolm Floyd and Buster Davis for playing time but Davis brings the best pedigree to the position of any on the roster. Jackson is a certain starter but Parker's absence is a great opportunity for Davis to move up the depth charts.

11/17/06
Charger WR Eric Parker participated in some drills on Thursday but still remains questionable for Sunday's game against Denver. Parker hurt his neck in last Sunday's win against Cincinnati.
Huddle Up: If Parker can't go, that should once again open opportunities for Malcom Floyd, who had a strong game against the Bengals with 109 yards and a TD. Floyd tweaked his ankle against Cincinnati but should be good to go.

12/20/05
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that WR Eric Parker will likely miss the Chargers' Week 16 matchup at Kansas City due to a foot injury.
Huddle Up: Keenan McCardell's value just skyrocketed. If you have him, run him. If your league allows for pickups this late in the season, grab him immediately.
