2007 Outlook
Javon Walker made a big splash as a Bronco last year, ending with 1084 yards on 69 catches with eight touchdowns scored. But that wasn’t good enough to rank in the top ten for any receiving category of NFL wideouts in 2006. Where Walker made up some ground was in rushing nine times for 123 yards and one score. His numbers were boosted in week nine in Pittsburgh when he caught six passes for 134 yards and two scores, and added a 72-yard touchdown run for one of the highest scoring weeks of any fantasy wide receiver last year. He only had three games with more than 100 receiving yards.
Most relevant is that once Jay Cutler became the starter in week 13 (AKA just when you needed him most), Walker only averaged 46 yards per game for the rest of the year after turning in around 78 yards each week. He scored once in games against the Bengals and Cardinals but only once had more than 52 yards when Cutler was playing. Walker had problems from a lack of a #2 wideout to worry the defense and relieve coverage on him. Rod Smith has lost two steps by now while Brandon Marshall is still learning the game. Walker is clearly talented but that works against him until Cutler becomes more comfortable throwing into the tight coverage that Walker’s talent attracts. Expect a season that improves as Cutler gains more experience and realize that four of his eight scores came in just two games with Plummer as quarterback and those games produced 264 receiving yards – about 25% of his season totals.
Recent Priority News
06/24/08
The Associated Press is reporting that Las Vegas police have made an arrest in the Javon Walker case. Police apprehended 30-year old Alfat Fadel on Friday but have just released the information because they are looking for a second suspect believed to still be in the Las Vegas area. Fadel is suspected of kidnapping and robbery to go along with other charges.
Huddle Up: Walker has been treated and released from Las Vegas hospital after sustaining significant facial injuries and and a concussion in the altercation. Barring any setbacks to his recovery, Walker is expected to be ready for training camp in July with the Oakland Raiders.

FOX 5 News in Las Vegas reports Oakland Raiders WR Javon Walker was found unconscious Monday, June 16, after an apparent early morning robbery in Las Vegas, according to Metro police. Walker was taken to Sunrise Medical Center's Trauma unit, where he was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon, according to hospital officials. Police said Walker had significant injuries.
Huddle Up: Walker has been working hard in the offseason to become the Pro-Bowl caliber wideout that he was with the Green Bay Packers prior to his season-ending injury from a couple of seasons ago. Hopefully, the injuries to Walker in the robbery will not be severe enough to keep him off the field for a long period of time. He should be considered a solid No. 2 wideout option in a Raiders passing attack that should be improved a little from last season. Keep an eye on Walker's status through training camp to see how severe his injury is and how long he will be out of action.
06/17/08
Updating previous reports, Ken Ritter, of The Associated Press, reports a large amount of cash and some jewelry were taken from Oakland Raiders WR Javon Walker (eye) during a robbery in Las Vegas, in which Walker sustained significant injuries. He could be released from the hospital Tuesday, June 17.
Huddle Up: This is great news if Walker is indeed going to be released from the hospital today. It appears that the newly acquired Walker could be back on the practice field sooner than expected during training camp.

Oakland wideout Javon Walker has reported for organized team activities however came in out of shape according to coach Lane Kiffin. "Javon's a little heavy right now so we're going to continue this offseason to get him down by training camp and the regular season, the final thing that counts. He's picking up the offense fine but we've got a long way to go."
Huddle Up: Walker appears to be ready to pickup where he left off in Denver as it is never a good sign to start with a new team reporting out of shape. Fantasy owners should downgrade Walker due mainly for the reason that he appears to not be ready for training camp which will likely set him back leading up to the start of the season. Walker has a lot of work to do before he can be considered a factor for Raiders or fantasy football owners this year.
03/04/08
The Oakland Raiders have signed Javon Walker to a six-year deal worth $55 million and that includes $16 million guaranteed. The first three years are for $27 million which is the same amount that the Patriots just paid to retain Randy Moss.
Huddle Up: The Raiders certainly needed new blood and they are obviously committing to Walker as the primary receiver there for JaMarcus Russell. But that sort of astronomic money seems an optimistic purchase for a wideout who has only scored 30 times in six seasons and only remained healthy for three full seasons.
11/24/07
Despite practicing normally and without limitations during the earlier part of the week, WR Javon Walker was 'limited in practice' Friday due to swelling in his surgically repaired knee. The Denver starting receiver is listed as questionable on the injury report for Denver's week 12 game against the Chicago Bears.
Huddle Up: Once again this is shaping up to be a possible setback in the return to the field for the talented Bronco receiver. Fantasy owners should expect Walker to be a gametime decision on Sunday but it is recommended that you keep Walker on your bench until he gets at least one game under his belt before starting him in your fantasy roster.
