2007 Outlook
Walter was with the Bengals for three seasons and spent 2006 in Houston where he only had 17 catches for 160 yards and no scores. But he impressed coaches enough to drop the ineffective Eric Moulds and not pursue a free agent #2 receiver this year. Walter never had more than three catches or more than 28 yards in any single game last season so a major step up would be surprising but he is the front runner for the starting job and already knows the offense. HC Gary Kubiak already said that looking back at 2006, he wished he had relied on Walter more. Walter already has worked out with the first team in minicamps and should end up the starter.
Recent Priority News
07/01/08
The Sporting News reports Houston Texans WR Kevin Walter is likely to be one of the team's starting wide receivers once the season starts. The team re-signed WR Andre' Davis but he is unlikely to move past Walter on the depth chart.
Huddle Up: Houston has a nice complement of receivers including No. 1 target Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter who is capable of lighting up the scoreboard in Houston this season. With Matt Schaub coming back to full strength fantasy owners should expect big things out of the Texans especially if they can find a consistent ground game to keep defenses honest. They are definately a team on the rise this season and could offer solid fantasy stats from their players at bargain prices. Keep all Texan skill players on your fantasy radar this year.
10/15/07
Houston Texans wideout Kevin Walter led all receivers in the Week 6 tilt against the Jacksonville Jaguars as he hauled in 12 receptions for 160 yards on the day.
Huddle Up: The Texans continue to get good production from its other wideouts to replace the injured star Andre Johnson. This week it was Kevin Walter instead of Andre Davis to be the primary target for Texans QB Matt Schaub. Fantasy owners looking for wide receivers to start could do worse than the Texans receivers but it will be hard to determine which wideout will be the main benefactor each week.
08/02/07
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has stated that Kevin Walter has a lock on the #2 wide receiver spot for the Texans. This despite the presence of veteran Keenan McCardell and rookie Jacoby Jones on the roster.
Huddle Up: Who knows? Things are really being shaken up on Houston. But let's see some pre-season game action for Walter before we use pen to write his name in as the #2 WR for the Texans. And even if he does make that spot, McCardell and Jones are going to get plenty of playing time, and it's still the struggling Texans offense.
