Prediction: HOU 20, TEN 27

This is a rematch of week 12 when the Titans discovered that Rusty Smith was mostly just rusty and lost to the Texans in a 20-0 shutout. The Texans are on a short week after the painful Monday night loss and are only 2-4 on the road. The Titans are on a six game losing streak.

Pregame Notes: What a painful way to lose a game - in overtime by a returned interception after making a valiant 14 point comeback to tie the game. The only thing keeping the Texans from being on a seven game losing streak are these Titans. At 5-8 the Texans need to win out to salvage a .500 record but nothing since the week seven bye says the Texans can do that.

QUARTERBACK: Matt Schaub comes off a 393 yard, three touchdown game against the visiting Ravens but one of his worst showings all year was in week 12 when he only passed for 178 yards and two scores on these Titans. Expect more yardage this week in a game that Schaub will have to work to stay in. The Titans have already allowed six 300+ yard passers and this should prove much more challenging for Schaub.

RUNNING BACKS: Arian Foster had his second highest game of the year when he faced the Titans in week 12. He rushed 30 times for 143 yards and added nine catches for 75 yards though he never scored. It was one of the rare times that Foster has not scored this year and his highest number of receptions in a game. The Titans have been far better at home defending the run and Foster had 30 carries last time because the Titans could generate no offense with Rusty Smith as the quarterback.

Foster is an obvious start each week but should be a bit less productive this week on the road in Tennessee. If he continues his high number of catches, he'll still have another monster yardage game.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Andre' Johnson is suffering from a high ankle sprain but other than that he is unstoppable and apparently handles pain well. Johnson had nine catches for 56 yards and one score against the Titans two weeks ago, then had 149 yards in Philly and followed that with 140 yards and two scores last week on the Ravens. Kevin Walter (1-12) and Jacoby Jones (2-13) had little impact in the previous game against the Titans but that was when Foster was running 30 times.

There is no reason to consider anyone besides Johnson here for a start and he should have a decent showing despite his apparent high ankle sprain. He already scored on the Titans two weeks ago and this time around Schaub will have to throw to stay in the game.

David Anderson hurt his shoulder and may not play as the #4 receiver this week.

TIGHT ENDS:Owen Daniels came back after five weeks off with a hamstring strain and had his best game of the year with 91 yards on five catches and he had 11 targets in the game. Daniels has not scored this year though and Joel Dreessen will still play as the #2 tight end but it is more than encouraging that Owens looked healthy for the first time this season. Since Joel Dreesen had the score in the previous game with the Titans, I'll expect Daniels to have his first of the year in this game.

Titans Report | Statistics | Roster
TENNESSEE vs HOU Rush Catch Pass
QB Kerry Collins - - 270,2
RB Chris Johnson 110,1 40 -
TE Bo Scaife - 30,1 -
WR Kenny Britt - 80,1 -
WR Nate Washington - 60 -
WR Randy Moss - 30 -
PK Rob Bironas 2 FG 3 XP -

Pregame Notes: A bad year winds down with big questions for the offseason - who is going to leave? HC Jeff Fisher or QB Vince Young? Both? The Titans are in a tailspin and this is the last chance to pull out before two road games in Kansas City and Indianapolis.

QUARTERBACK: Chances are that Kerry Collins will play better than Rusty Smith who only managed to throw for 138 yards in Houston in his only NFL start. Collins comes off a three touchdown game against the Colts with their far better secondary than the Texans who rank 32nd against quarterbacks. The Texans have allowed 30 touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this year and the only one that did not have a monster game - Rusty Smith two weeks ago.

RUNNING BACKS: Chris Johnson was embarrassed the last time with the Texans holding him to only five net yards on seven carries as they stacked the line and ignored Rusty Smith. Playing in Tennessee with Collins at quarterback will make a big difference and Johnson is sure to have a chip on his shoulder from that game. Johnson had one of the biggest games of his career last year when the Texans showed up and he scored three times with 284 total yards.

That's a bit much to expect this week but so is seven total yards. Look for a good effort here by Johnson who just rang up 179 yards on the Colts last week.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Kenny Britt returned last week with four catches for 39 yards while Randy Moss was never even thrown a pass. The Titans are considering moving Moss to the flanker so that both he and Britt could be on the field together though that would come at the expense of Nate Washington who never wanted Moss there anyway (and this is why).

It really does not get much better for a wideout than the Texans visiting though with Moss and Britt both there it makes is less clear what to expect. Britt should snag a score here and have decent yardage as the player the Titans most want to showcase but it seems like breaking a natural law to not expect Moss to have a good game against the worst secondary in the league. But Moss has never had a decent game for the Titans and did not even get a pass.

I'll credit Britt with a score and yards but the breakdown is less certain this week.

TIGHT ENDS: Bo Scaife comes off his best game of the year with two scores on his four catches for 20 yards on the Colts. TE Craig Stevens also scored once though he's only had 11 catches this season. Add in Jared Cook and there is no real reliability in this group despite playing against the #31 ranked defense against tight ends. I like a score to this group again this week and will credit Scaife as the most likely.
