Team Defense By Committee is more popular than I thought because a lot of you have communicated a desire to see this preseason primer article again. I’m gonna get right to it but first I want to mention something pretty cool. The Huddle has partnered with FanDuel, who’ve introduced the exciting concept of “weekly” fantasy football leagues with instant cash payouts. Each week is like a new “season” and right now we’re giving you a chance to take on the JUMbotron in “The Huddle $500 FreeRoll.” Click here to jump in for a chance to win a quick $500 – plus they’ll hand another $5 bucks to every single one of you who simply beats me in Week 1!
Whoa, team defenses were hugely popular in my local 10-team league draft on Saturday, as we saw a record 12 DEFs fly off the board before the 14th round. We’ve been running this league since 1990 and never do I recall seeing mass DEF consumption like this. It was like the spirit of Bubba Smith permeated the room. I just sat back and smiled, because for my plan it just frees up more skill players to pluck off the tree. I didn’t grab my first defense until the 14th round because I run Team Defense By Committee. Then I followed with a backup DEF in the 17th round and hopefully snared two teams with decent “sleeper” qualities that will fit my TDBC blueprint.
Here’s which top defenses were picked in my league and when – compared to who I got in that same round:
