|Matt Cassel injured his shoulder in the final pre-season game. Status unknown.
Matt Cassel, KC - Undisclosed Shoulder Injury
Chiefs’ QB Matt Cassel left Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Packers with an undisclosed shoulder injury and he did not return. Cassel was hurt when he was sacked by defensive lineman Howard Green in the first half and after being helped off the field he was seen throwing on the sidelines. Unfortunately he appeared to be in some discomfort and he was held out for the remainder of the game. The nature of the injury is currently unknown, but according to reports it doesn’t appear to be serious. We’ll know more about his status for Week 1 over the next couple of days.
Peyton Manning, IND - Surgery to Repair Bulging Disc in Cervical Spine
Colts’ QB Peyton Manning is now a step closer to being ready for the start of the regular season. The medical staff activated Manning from the active/PUP list earlier this week and he has begun practicing with teammates on limited basis. As expected he was inactive for Thursday night’s preseason game, but a source close to the situation has told The Huddle that he is getting closer to full strength and that he should be able to practice without restrictions sometime next week. If things continue to go as planned Manning will definitely be under center for the start of the regular season.
UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter made this statement on SportsCenter Friday in ragards to the Colts' QB situation. "They're going as if Kerry Collins is going to be the starter. That's the feeling in the organization." However, it's still too early to tell and much more will be known as the team hits the practice field next week.
Vince Young, PHI - Strained Hamstring
According to reports Eagles’ QB Vince Young left Thursday night’s preseason game against the Jets after straining his right hamstring and his status for Week 1 is now in question. Young was injured when he rolled out on a forth-down play late in the first half. He eventually limped to the sideline where he was examined by the team’s medical staff. He tried walking it off but he continued to limp on the sideline and he was finally taken to the locker room just before the end of the first half. Head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Young is scheduled for an MRI today (Friday) and while he doesn’t believe the injury is serious he indicated that the team wouldn’t know more about his Week 1 status until after they received the results of his tests.
