Pittsburgh SteelersMoving Down
Last week's shutout was nice, but the Steelers still haven't generated a turnover--and they faced Tarvaris Jackson at home, for cryin' out loud!

Dallas CowboysMoving Up
With an NFL-leading 10 sacks, the Cowboys have done a fine job covering for injuries in the secondary. And now that they're getting some players back, things can only get better.

Guys, there are as many different scoring methods for defenses as there are leagues. For the most part these rankings focus on turnovers and defensive touchdowns: the higher a team ranks, the more likely they are to generate picks and fumbles (sacks obviously factors into that as well) and produce a defensive score. To a lesser extent points allowed (a traditional "good" defense) are also considered. That may not match up with how your league evaluates defenses; hence, some discrepancies.

Ah, I get the Cowboys' ranking now. They lead the league in sacks and rushing yards allowed. Then again, the Lions are 2nd in points allowed...

I'm surprised the Lions are so low and the Cowboys are so high. The Cowboys' secondary is decimated and they just gave up 24 pts to lowly SF. And with Dez hurt, their special teams takes a hit, too. Maybe the Lions are ranked so low bcs the Bucs & Chiefs offenses are so bad so far? Seems to me the Lions & Cowboys should have their rankings swapped.

I'm surprised Green Bay has remained at #1. They got burned by the Saints (understandable), then the Panthers led by a rookie QB. Not saying they're a bad defense, just very surprised they still rank #1.
