IDP Game Breakdowns Star Ratings: Week 9

This is part 2 in the weekly IDP Game Breakdown series. Star Ratings boxes utilize the same color coding as the reference chart in part 1. Each team's ratings box is colored to show the tackle opportunities the team they are facing is giving up: average (highlighted in yellow), below average (highlighted in red) & above average (highlighted in green). This will help so that you can quickly see the good vs. bad vs. neutral matchups and also if you are stuck between who to start out of say two 3 Star players then you will probably want to go with the one that has a "Green" matchup versus a "Red" matchup (remember Scheme Matters).

Star ratings are based on a 12-team league with the following starting requirements: 2 defensive linemen (DL) (defensive ends (DE) & defensive tackles (DT)), 3 linebackers (LB), 3 defensive backs (DB) (cornerbacks (CB) & safeties (S)).

Scoring system used for this article: solo tackle (2), assisted tackle (1), sack (3), forced or recovered fumble (3), interception (3) and pass defended (1).

Tackle opportunity stats as well as other stats utilized in the breakdowns are derived from data provided by NFLData.com.

Star Rating System
5-Star Play: Studly performance anticipated
4-Star Play: Above average performance anticipated
3-Star Play: Average starter performance anticipated
2-Star Play: Risky Starter/ Sleeper
1-Star Play: Pine rider, keep 'em on the bench, too risky to start
IR = Injured Reserve
OUT = player will not play due to injury
Injured = player injured but not yet ruled out, too much risk to rank
# = bump player up one level in DT mandatory leagues
If a Star Rank box is GREEN that means the players rank has been adjusted UP.
If a Star Rank box is RED that means the players rank has been adjusted DOWN.

This is the best IDP breakdown that I have seen. I certainly appreciate the early star ratings for Thursday games, waiver wire pick ups, etc. But, as long as it is there on Sunday morning, nobody does it better. Thank you.

Chuck L- I guess I will add him next week. The main reason that Smith hasn't been listed is because he isn't a starter and is only playing in about 30 snaps/game (excluding the Det. game).

When are yuo going to start including SF LB Aldon Smith? He's was the October defensive rookie of the month.

Matt H-Earlier is the reason the star ratings are all alone...doubtful we will add them back or copy them to the breakdowns this year...but I will keep it in mind going forward.

Jason J-When you say "start bench list" what article are you exactly talking about? Link to it if needed. Thanks

Barry-The lockout really hurt things for us this year too...I already have a format that will probably be implemented for next year, but we just couldn't get it done for this year. The "concept" is that there will be a box like the star ratings box, but it will have their star rating and their injury report/practice designation too...so it would possibly kill the IDP Injury/Practice Report but it would get all the pertinent info into one spot...can't say for sure but we might be going to a one page/matchup format...much like the Predictions and Projections that DMD does for the offensive players...Only thing is that there is no way I will be able to get that out by Tuesday like he does...Thursday is a strain for the Game Breakdown write-ups as it is.

Bob K-I think we will continue to find a way to get the info out as early as possible...but maybe what we will end up doing is having a page for each matchup that is updated daily...First with Tackle Stats, then the Star Ratings, then the GBs and Injury Updates...just make it a fluid "article" not sure if that makes sense or would work but it is a thought.

Also, really appreicate everyone's input.

I would like to continue to get the star ratings on Thursday, but like others, I would like it if they could be combined with the word descriptions on Friday. Just would make it a bit easier. Thanks for asking.

I do like getting the star ratings earlier, but I like Matt H would also like to see them listed with the game breakdowns like they were last year. Or just list the 3, 4, and 5 star plays with the Breakdowns. It would make it easier to cross reference the two if they were together instead of having to toggle between two separate pages.

I would like to see them incorporated with the start bench list. It would be nice to have one page or report to reference when submitting your fantasy lineup.

I would prefer getting the star ratings on the same page as the Game Breakdowns since you reference them in the breakdowns at times and earlier is always better in my opinion.

Okay everyone, since we are basically at the midway point I figured I would ask how everyone feels about the star ratings so far.

1. Do you like getting them earlier?
2. How do you feel about getting them separate from the Game Breakdowns?
