WEEK 14
2011
CLE at PIT (thu) * HOU at CIN NE at WAS PHI at MIA
ATL at CAR IND at BAL NO at TEN SF at ARI
BUF at SD KC at NYJ * NYG at DAL TB at JAC
* Update * CHI at DEN * MIN at DET * OAK at GB * STL at SEA (mon)

Prediction: STL 3, SEA 27

Update: Sam Bradford (ankle) and A.J. Feeley (thumb) have not practiced and will not play. That leaves Tom Brandstater as the starter and even less reason to consider using any Rams player. Brandon Lloyd has been the only STL receiver of any note and eve he looks unattractive on the road with a third-string QB.

The Rams are 2-10 on a three game losing streak and bring their 1-5 road record to Seattle where the Seahawks are 3-3. This is just the replay from three weeks ago when the Seahawks won 24-7 in St. Louis so, yeah, things are not really looking up for the Rams yet.

Rams Report | Statistics | Roster
ST. LOUIS at SEA Rush Catch Pass
QB Sam Bradford - - 180
QB Tom Brandstater - - 150
RB Steven Jackson 40 20 -
WR Brandon Lloyd - 50 -
WR Brandon Gibson - 40 -
PK Josh Brown 1 FG XP -
Pregame Notes: The forgettable season is not only ending poorly, it is getting worse. An injured Sam Bradford may need to play and the final stretch of games features either teams that have already beaten them or CIN and PIT with winning records and solid defenses. The only interesting part of the Rams anymore is what will happen in the offseason because one of the most promising teams of 2010 turned into an incredible flop.

QUARTERBACK: You have to worry that the 2010 Rookie of the Year may be so shell-shocked after this year that he may not be the same again. A.J. Feely has a broken thumb and cannot play so Sam Bradford may be pressed into service despite having a high ankle sprain. I will assume he plays, is hobbled and gets pretty pissed at all the beatings he gets.

Bradford passed for 181 yards and one score in the first meeting but had two lost fumbles and an interception and a good ankle. No reason to consider Bradford this week or this year.

RUNNING BACKS: Sadly the Seahawks are really good against the run and held Steven Jackson to only 42 yards on 15 carries in week 11 and that was at home. Chances are the Seahawks at home are going to be even better at stopping Jackson who has lost fantasy value recently as the offense implodes around him and leaves no one else for the defense to worry about. Jackson will need receptions to salvage any fantasy value.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Not surprisingly the only fantasy relevant player in the last meeting with the Seahawks was Brandon Lloyd who scored once on his five catches for 67 yards. No other wideout gained more than 37 yards or scored and that was in a home game. Lloyd has been the only relevant receiver for the Rams but even he only produced one catch for 34 yards with Feely under center last week. Lloyd remains a low end play for wideout because he has been able to hang around 50 to 70 yards in most games and scored in four of the last five but on the road and now with a gimpy Bradford a score is hard to rely on.

TIGHT ENDS: No fantasy value.

SEATTLE vs STL Rush Catch Pass
QB Tarvaris Jackson - - 160,1
RB Marshawn Lynch 150,2 - -
WR Golden Tate - 30,1 -
WR Doug Baldwin - 60 -
WR Mike Williams - 50 -
PK Steven Hauschka 2 FG 3 XP -

Pregame Notes: This should be a nice final easy game for the Seahawks who then have to play @CHI, SF and @ ARI to end the year. The offense has made strides this year particularly in discovering a running game that no one knew existed. An upgrade at quarterback still seems to be a big need but the receivers have spawned some optimism that better seasons are to come with the young crew. This week - a feel good game.

QUARTERBACK:The success of the Seahawks is only marginally related to Tarvaris Jackson other than he has kept his turnovers low. Jackson has done well enough handing off to Marshawn Lynch but as a passer he's just a game manager and has not even exceeded 200 yards for the last three weeks. Jackson has passed for only ten touchdowns this year against 12 interceptions. In fantasy terms, he has never been more than a marginal play.

Jackson only passed for 148 yards and one score in the first meeting against the Rams and he won't have to do that much in the home game. He could do much more but why? Not a safe start.

RUNNING BACKS: This is Christmas early for Marshawn Lynch who rushed for 88 yards and one score on 27 carries in St. Louis. Justin Forsett gained 31 yards and a touchdown on four runs in that same game for his only score of the year. This is a set-up, pure and simple, for Lynch to turn in a monster game against a Rams defense that doesn't even have the energy to waive the white flag anymore. This is the defense that gave up 228 yards to Beanie Wells and 253 yards to DeMarco Murray.

Lynch is a must start anyway but this could end up bigger than last week when he punished the Eagles with 148 yards and two touchdowns. This is the final soft defense he will face and at home no less.

WIDE RECEIVERS: With the focus likely to be on the running game, expectations here are hard to form. In the previous meeting, both Doug Baldwin (3-60) and Mike Williams (2-62) were catching long passes while Sidney Rice ( 3-35) had the lone passing touchdown. But Rice is on injured reserve with a concussion and Golden Tate is starting to show up with a touchdown in each of the last two games while drawing praise from the coaches about how good he will be next year. None of these wideouts have a low risk game here and could all under perform if Lynch takes over the game.

I'll credit the score to Tate only because the coaches are raving about him but he has yet to gain more than 46 yards in a game so far.

TIGHT ENDS: No fantasy value.
