Game Prediction: DAL 13, NYG 26
While Bill Parcells seems a natural to have on Monday Night
Football again, it seems wrong that he would bring the Dallas
Cowboys along with him. Are you ready for some football? Okay,
are you ready for 349 camera shots of Parcells' contorted
face?
The Cowboys opened with a loss to the Falcons and looked
remarkably like the same team that lost their final four games
last season. Only this time it was Troy Hambrick not getting
enough carries and Quincy Carter throwing the interceptions.
Carter managed 268 yards passing including a nice 49 yard
bomb to Joey Galloway. He ran for only 11 yards on four rushes
and committed the errors that led to his initial benching
last year. He threw up a duck pass that was intercepted and
fumbled once. Carter is not expected to win games, but he
is expected to not lose them. It was a career best day for
yardage for Carter but was overshadowed by the loss and his
mistakes.
Troy Hambrick gained 53 yards on 14 carries and looked good
at least occasionally. The rushing yards were enhanced in
the box scores by Avieon Cason's 63 yard dash for a touchdown
in the first quarter. The Cowboys actually took the 7-3 lead
into half time but then gave up 24 second half points while
only posting the Galloway touchdown catch that was followed
by a blocked extra point attempt. Billy Cundiff also missed
a 37 yard field goal earlier in the game.
Joey Galloway had a great seven catch, 139 yard afternoon
while Antonio Bryant returned from his quadricep injury and
turned in two catches for 71 yards. This should prove fairly
standard for the Cowboys this season as they attempt to establish
the run with the occasional deep throw.
The Giants come off a solid win over the Rams, evidently
boosted by the concussion that Kurt Warner continued to play
with as he peppered the Giants secondary for 342 yards but
only one touchdown. The Giant's defense held Marshall Faulk
to a total of only 55 yards and Kenny Holmes plopped down
on a Warner fumble in the endzone for one score.
Kerry Collins threw 14 of 26 for 202 yards and no scores
against a secondary that he should have exploited for more.
Amani Toomer had only two catches but gained 98 yards since
his second catch went for 77 yards. Ike Hilliard had four
catches for 32 yards and Jeremy Shockey turned in three catches
for 36 yards but managed to not hurt anyone including himself.
Tiki Barber was the difference in the game, rushing for 146
yards on only 24 carries.
This week the Giants welcome the limelight on Monday night
and face the team they defeated 37-7 in New York last year.
Look for yet more Tiki Barber slicing through the Dallas defense
and Amani Toomer to give rookie Terrence Newman a lesson in
why you cannot allow a WR to get behind you.
