Game Prediction: DET 13, SEA 27
The notion that the Lions will end their road drought and
maintain a three game winning streak is too hard to comprehend.
The Seahawks have no room for error anymore and are 5-0 at
home. The Lions are 0-forever on the road.
Detroit Notes
The Lions - I'm serious here - are currently on a two game
winn - I said I mean this - winning streak and rise to a lofty
3-6 on the season.
Quarterbacks: Joey
Harrington faced a decent Chicago secondary last week
and turned in his most productive game of the season with
238 yards passing. He had no touchdowns - no one did for the
Lions - but he also had no interceptions for the first time
in five games.
Running backs: The Lions
faced one of the below average rushing defenses last week,
in Detroit, and following the oddities that make up every
NFL week, they only managed to gain a total of 10 yards on
17 carries. They could have had 12 yards, but Olandis Gary
lost two yards on his only carry. It marked the worst rushing
effort of the season for all runners involved.
Wide Receivers: Scotty
Anderson turned in 77 yards on five catches, roughly twice
his best this season. The important thing to remember is that
they won. Not much else is here.
Tight Ends: This is significant
- Casey Fitzsimmons has taken over the starting tight
end spot and had five catches for 33 yards last week. Mikhael
Ricks was out last week but has struggled with running
routes and catching passes. In one case Ricks had a pass carom
off the back of his helmet a few weeks ago. Fitzsimmons is
one to keep an eye on for the future.
Match against the defense:
There is no real rushing matchup since the Lions have not
had a good rushing effort pretty much the entire season. DT
Norman Hand is gone but probably will not be missed this week
anyway.
The Lions face a secondary that has been burned but they
do not have the receivers to take advantage.
Seattle Notes
The Seahawks fall to 6-3 and are now tied with the Rams for
the NFC West lead.
Quarterbacks: Matt
Hasselbeck comes off a solid 18 of 31 for 241 yards and
one score against the Redskins and had another pass make it
to the one yard line. Hasselbeck has thrown for over 200 yards
the past seven weeks and only had one game without at least
one passing score. He continues to be hampered by receivers
that drop passes.
Running backs: Shaun
Alexander almost reached the century mark rushing last
week when he gained 94 yards and scored once. For the first
time this season he had no catches. Mack Strong had
two receptions for 28 yards with one that went to the one-yard
line.
Wide Receivers: Koren
Robinson did not practice last week but still played and
gained 88 yards on five catches. The problem spot has been
Darrell Jackson who has been dropping far too many
passes lately and last week let one get by him that was intercepted.
Bobby Engram (6-65, 1 TD) has been more effective recently
than Jackson but since Alex Bannister is the only other
active receiver, the order does not change.
Tight Ends: Itula
Mili only had two catches for 19 yards which is much closer
to his norm than the 80 yard, two touchdown game three weeks
ago.
Match against the defense:
Matt Hasselbeck should have another nice game. The
Lions have been much easier to burn on the road and almost
all opponent quarterbacks have had multiple touchdown games.
CB Dre' Bly may play Sunday after missing two weeks and would
be tasked against Koren Robinson on most plays but
he may still miss one more Sunday. The Lions have not allowed
a 100 yard receiver since week one but realistically that
is because they have been allowing teams to beat them and
not need to throw.
Shaun Alexander may run better this week since LB
Boss Bailey is limited because of a shoulder injury and if
the Seahawks get a decent lead, they will be content to run
the clock out with Shaun.
